I still can't believe one day I'm sitting at the Phillies game listening to my father and Charlie talk and make fun of me for asking so many questions and then a few days later, well, yeah. Charlie was always there while i was growing up, whether i wanted to see him or not, he was there. I started off scared of the large man who walked into our house every now and then, but i started to grow fond of him and enjoy his company. Once he married Sue the poor guy had to put up with me probably way too much, but he enjoyed it i think. While Kelsey was at a friends house I'd go to the Senior house and play Trivial Pursuit with my parents Sue and Charlie. It was Kohlers verse the Seniors and we usually lost. Like Kelsey said, I remember the ski trip, me and Kelsey made fun of Charlie because he would go slow while we went fast and the one time he decided to voom past us Kelsey decided to roll down the mountain and loose a ski on the way. I remember when me and sue did our make up all pretty and took stupid pictures, Charlie told me boy george was prettier. I'm glad Charlie was at my graduation and got to see me become an adult, even though it was a horrible day he stayed and watched. He would go to football games and watch me and kelsey march around the field and laugh when everyone fell. He was just always there and he still is and always will be.

Charlie was like a father to me. I loved and still love him so much. He was so funny and made me laugh so much. I remember when we went skiing together and he had to pretend to be my dad. He was going up the ski lift while i was going down a mountain and he yelled "HONEY!" and i fell. When I shot my first deer, Charlie was the first one to know. He was so proud of me which made me so happy. We would sit in the living room while Sue was in the kitchen making us food and we would make fun of her because she couldn't hear us. =] I loved when Charlie would make old man noises, they were the best. He was my Chuckaroonie. Sue, I love you so much and you are pretty much another mother to me. I trust you with everything. You both have made such an impact in my life. Thank you<3

My heart is broken for you. I send you all my love and best wishes. Charlie touched so many lives. What a great legacy. Even though we'd rather have him back he is strong and healthy now and smiling down on all of us.

Susan,
I don't have to tell you that Charlie was one of those rare people who touched other people and left a lasting memory. To know Charlie was to know a true gentleman. He was a gentle man who touched me with his courage and his sense of humor. How delighted I was when I was in his company. He always made me laugh. I will miss him.

Dear Sue and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you every day. Charlie went through so much with the most amazing courage, spirit and grace. I can never remember seeing him without a smile no matter what he was dealing with. You were blessed to have him in your life and we are blessed to have had Charlie as a friend.

"I'll be your mirror, reflect what you are, in case you don't know"
This line is from one of my favorite songs and it has been going through my mind. My memories of Charlie Senior are memories of how strongly he reflected back on the people who loved him most.
When it's all said and done, how do any of us know if we are good friends, good brothers, good sisters, good spouses, or even good people? I think it takes other people. I can't say I knew Charlie very well, but I can say I saw how he reflected the best in people that I love. That is a gift and I can not think of any greater testament to a life well lived.

One of my favorite memories of Uncle Charlie is the day he gave me his very first fireman's hat from Beach Haven. I LOVE the hose and water and wearing the hat, make-believing that I am a fireman just like my Uncle Charlie. Another special memory I have is when he and Aunt Suzie came to my farm to see my new animals. It was my 4th birthday and it was cold in February, but they came and spent the night. We fed the goats (billy and his brother) and the pot bellied pigs (rosie and boots), the miniature horses (blackberry and blackberry's brother) and the big horse Allowishes. We sat in my house and they gave me my own birthday cake with candles that wouldn't go out! When I was blowing them out they came "back to fire". I want them every year now on my birthday cake! We talk about Uncle Charlie alot and I wear his hat and remember how much I loved him but I know he is in heaven with Ellwood and Duncan cat, watching over them and petting them and taking care of them for me.

I guess that my earliest strong memory of Charlie was really at their wedding reception in NJ. Even though I knew him before that, the first time I really "saw" him was the day I saw how absolutely happy he made my god-sister. I knew then and there that even though I knew him more through Sue's stories and experiences then I did from personal interaction, that he was a wondering human being. Watching them that evening I was so overwhelmed that that they had both found (finally) their soul mates. Since then, I don't have specific things that I remember as much as the overall feeling of the special bond that the two of them shared, in good times and bad. I think that I was just always so happy that they were so lucky to find each other. I wish this for everyone I care about, yet you seldom see it in the relationships that you run across. I am so sorry that you didn't get more time together Soobie - but I am so glad that you found Charlie, and had the years that you did. I love you, Cathi and Tom

I did not know Charlie as long as I would have liked. The time I did know him was special. He was so easy to talk to and a pleasure to be with. I will always remember how he allowed me to help him eat cherries the last time I was with him. I don't think he would let just anyone help him like that because he was proud. I considered it an honor to help him. I will cherish the gifts he gave me,the beautiful duck decoy and hunting knife. I prayed for Charlie every day and I will miss seeing him on the deck at your Mom & Dad's. I pray for you now Susan that your grief and pain will soon be eased.
Love, Uncle Bob.

I never met Charlie in person, but I knew him through the words of his parter, Susan. He seemed to be one of the sweetest men around, and I never saw a photo of him not looking happy, and never heard a word of him being defeated by his illness. I know my view was from far away, but the relationship I saw was so beautiful, despite all the hardship. I am thrilled he had someone so wonderful in his life, and while it must be hard now for those left behind, I hope everyone can find peace and relish the wonderful times, which it appeared there were many, many, many of.

Dear Ernie, Mary and Sue, I cannot tell you how much you and Charlie have meant to me and my John. All those years ago, when Charlie came home from the service, you were so proud, he was such a caring kind wonderful person from the time he was young. We go WAY back but I will NEVER forget the day he made it a point to bring you, Ernie, to my Johns viewing. Now they are together, two caring wonderful people. I am so sorry for your loss. May God comfort you and help you through this awful time. Just know he is in Gods hands now. Love to all of you.

Charlie was a huge part of our lives and we will miss him greatly. He was such an inspiration. He never complained and assured us he was fine no matter what the circumstance was. I am going to miss his one liners. He always made me laugh. Whether it was those one liners, a facial expression or a random "phhht" noise. He was all about making us chuckle. We made the perfect foursome. I am truly thankful for all the years I knew Charlie and will cherish those memories. We will muttle through the sorrow together. We will try to fill this void with those great memories and laughter.

Dear Sue,
Charlie may have lost the battle, but his undying spirit lives in all of us. His courage in the face of adversity, his dignity in the midst of disablity, and his determination to fight his disease to the very end are true legacies and shining examples to all of us.
It was an honor to be one of his Angels for the Cancer Relay for Life this past year. And Charlie will forever be one of our angels in heaven now. Take comfort that he is well and whole again.
With much love and caring,

Charlie created some of my best memories growing up in Beach Haven. Always quick to make me laugh, he was a strong influence on the music I listened to as well as how "not" to drive a car. I learned so much from him. I will never forget him. God Bless his family.

Dear Uncle Bob, Aunt Betty, Bobby, Billy, and families,
We are so sorry for your loss. We know that Charlie meant alot to all of you. Please be strong for yourselves and Sue. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We saw this poem and thought it may comfort you at this time.
In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
Love Always,
Lisa, Ed, Sarah, and Eddie
