Linda Lauer Obituary

LAUER, LINDA (MERLOCK), 52, - of Egg Harbor Township, passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Linda graduated Oakcrest High School in 1974, met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart and best friend, husband John Lauer. Together, they had their daughter Jolene with whom she found her calling In life as a devoted wife and mother. Linda had many passions in life, one of the grea pleasures she had was being involved with her daughters activities whether it was watching her horseback ride, being a spectator at the Flyers Academy Gymnastics, watching the EHT band practice and competitions and cheering the EHT Crew. Linda was never known to miss a meet, a practice, never missed an opportunity to travel with Jolene to Florida to watch her compete. Not only was she her daughters largest supporter, but was also her biggest fan. Other passions included spending time with her husband John at their home. She loved her gardening, animals, canning and loved everything to do with outdoors. She loved fishing, crabbing and the true quality time she spent with her family. Linda was an advocate in breast cancer awareness and would never be seen without wearing her pink ribbon pin. Linda took great pride in her work. She was employed with Prudential for 28 years then went on to be a classroom aide for the EHT school district. She loved the kids and faculty she worked with and considered them her second family. Her work kept her busy and her mind off the debilitating disease that she lived with for so long. She was a fighter, giving up was not in her vocabulary. When you met Linda, you always knew where you stood with her. Good, bad or indifferent you never second-guessed what her opinion was or what she was thinking. This quality in her is the quality so many people that knew Linda wished at times they had. In a nutshell, she told it like it was. On August 27, 2008 Linda walked out of this life through the same door she walked through, and far those of us fortunate enough to have known her, the smile that brightened a room, the contagious laugh, the loving wife, mother and friend, will be sadly and forever missed. Linda is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, John Lauer of EHT, her daughter Jolene Lauer who lives at home and is a student at EHT high school Linda's parents, Andrew and Anna Merlock, Brothers Andy, Edward, and Kenneth and sister-in-laws Ethyl and Judy along with many nieces and nephews, family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be sent to Breast Cancer Groups. and the Arch Riding School for the handicapped. Atwood Peterson O'Brien Funeral Home Egg Harbor City is in charge of arrangements. Condolences acn be sent to the Family at atwoodpetersonobrien.com

I miss you Linda! What a truly wonderful person you are. Your courage, thoughtfulness and laughter will be sadly missed. Our children, Jolene and Megan, brought us together many, many years ago.....I fondly remember our AC beach days. I thank Linda for helping me overcome smoking. She was my inspiration for quitting. I just couldn't see her battle cancer and me continue to smoke. Thanks Linda, 5 years and counting. Thanks for coming by and drinking that really, really sweet tea we liked, that was the last time we talked, you wanted some sweet tea, just a bit, but I always kept filling up your glass so you could stay just a bit longer.......

Jolene and John, I am so very sorry for your loss, you are both in my thoughts and prayers. (((((hugs)))))

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

John & Jolene,
May your memories of Linda always keep you smiling. Linda was a wonderful woman who was one of the strongest and courageous people I have ever known. I worked with her for a couple of years in the school system before transferring to another building within the school district. Linda will be forever remembered with a smile on her face! She is no longer suffering and is in heaven with our father above. God bless you & your whole family.

Aunt Linda, you will always be a Polish Princess to me! I will miss arguing with you about which of us was a bigger Polish Princess and all of the jokes you told me. You were the funniest Aunt that anyone could ever ask for! You loved to make people laugh, and then would make people laugh even more with your laughter! Tonight when I was giving Sofie a bath I found myself saying to her that we had to make sure we washed between the cracks when I washed her hands and feet. It made me think of you and all the times someone would go to wash their hands at your house! I will miss you and think about you and great-grandmom every time I tell Sofie about how she is a Polish Princess too! I love you and I know you are better now up in heaven with Great-grandmom eatting perogies!

I had the pleasure of working with Linda at the Miller School. She was the bravest person I have ever known. She always had a smile on her face in spite of everything. She was the most amazing person I have ever met. I will always remember her incredible strength to keep on going and not feel sorry for herself.

Dear Uncle John and Jolene,
We are so sorry about your loss. Aunt Linda was a great person to be around and she would always put a smile on your face with one of her comments. I was looking through pictures of all of the times that I spent with you. Aunt Linda taught me how to bake bread, make ice cream, homemade pumkin pies, can pickles and so much more. She always would let me braid her long hair when I would come over and she was the only person who would let me fill the bathtub all the way to the top and bring my barbie dolls in with me. I just spoke with her this week and her concern was how was she going to make it back to work. No matter how bad she felt, she always stayed focused on everything else. We will all miss her. I love you both!

Love Angie

My deepest and sincerest sympathy goes out to you in your time of loss! I have known Linda for many years through the school system...and although I had never had the pleasure of working hand in hand with her, I had many experiences with that showed me she was an amazing, caring, loving and incredible woman with much passion in her heart for you, her family, as well as her family in school. I am so glad that Linda crossed my path and that I was able to get to know the wonderful person that I did. She will be surely missed by all!
