Gaetano Ciallella Obituary

CIALLELLA, GAETANO, "TOMMY", 87 - of Toms River, entered the Gates of Heaven on Tuesday, September 17th surrounded by his loving family. Born in Roccamandolfi, Italy, he resided in Newark and Irvington before moving to Toms River 17 years ago. Gaetano was a master tailor and proprietor of M & R Clothing and Superior Garments in Newark. He served proudly and with honor in the 300th Quartermaster Division of the United States Army, serving in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe during WWII. Gaetano was a parishioner of St. Justin Church in Toms River. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Maria (nee Renna) in 2006; his parents, Dominick and Filomena Ciallella; and his brothers, Emil and Constantino Ciallella. Gaetano is survived by his daughters, Jo Anne LaVista of Toms River and her fiance, Bill Young, Theresa Dandolph and her husband, John of Toms River, Nancy Scardillo and her husband Frank, of Toms River, and Donna Verbaro and her husband Dennis of Chester; his sons, Dominick Ciallella of Toms River, and Anthony Ciallella and his wife, Lisa of Galloway; his sister, Bernadette Ciallella of Belleville; grandchildren, Rocco and Kim LaVista, John and Stephanie Dandolph, Marisa and Roger Pinheiro, Gina Ciallella, Joseph Scardillo, Anthony Ciallella and Gabrielle Verbaro; three great grandchildren, Sophia, Rocco and Angelina LaVista; and many loving nieces and nephews. Gaetano was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He was kind, generous, and selfless and truly a "gentle" man who was loved by all. His legacy will remain in our hearts and lives forever. Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m. today and 8:00-8:45 a.m. on Saturday at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM at St. Justin Church in Toms River. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Toms River.
