Mary Dougherty Obituary



DOUGHERTY, MARY LEAH, (SAUNDERS) 97 - of Northfield, passed away peacefully on Wed August 13, 2008 in Sacramento, Calif. Where she was lovingly cared for by her daughter Joyce and companion Beth Swartz for the past 10 years. She is predeceased by her parents Gertrude and Charles Saunders, her husband Charles F. Dougherty, and sisters Gertrude (Dolly) Saunders, Violet Willis(Paul), Naomi Schromsky (Harry). "Leah" as she was commonly called was born in Atlantic City on November 28,1910, she moved to Northfield in 1956 with her husband Charles of 43 years to raise their three children. Leah had the most beautiful heart and was a wonderful mother, she loved her children more than anything, and she leaves them to cherish her memory, her son Michael, daughter's Dianne (Hoover), and Joyce(Spivey). A big part of Leah's life was dedicated to Sorority Sisters of Beta-Sigma Lamba, which she was a part of since it began in 1929, until she began fighting her battle with Alzheimer's disease 10 years ago. While raising her family in the early 40's Leah worked at Fralinger's Original Salt Water Taffy in Atlantic City, Atlantic City bell Telephone Company, and then as a Simulated Ground Pilot for NAFEC-FAA Technical Center in EHT until she retired. Leah will be greatly missed by her remaining family members, grandchildren: Harry Samuel Lee Jr. (Joan), James J. Copsey II (Lori), Caine C. Copsey, Patrick Dougherty and Tracy Dougherty; great-grandchildren: Leah, Cassandra, C.C., Camrinn, Madison, Conner, Emmett, James J. III, Cayden; great-great granddaughter Alessa. Nephews Barry Schromsky (Marie Hudson) of Smithville and Wayne Schromsky (Nancy) of Egg Harbor Township. A graveside memorial service will take place at noon on Tuesday October 21, 2008 at Laurel Memorial Park Cemetery, Tilton Rd. Pomona, NJ.

My Beautiful Mama,
No words could ever say how much you meant to me. You were the light of my eyes and the song in my heart. I miss you so very much. You were so giving and so loving. You deserved so much.
