Dorothy Haines Obituary

HAINES, DOROTHY LEVY, 89 - a lifelong resident of Atlantic City, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 in Georgetowne, South Carolina where she has lived for the past five years with her daughter. In the 1930's as a young woman, she was a part of the water show on the Steel Pier, riding the high diving horse, and participating in the water ski events. For many years she was active in Atlantic City Public Relations and the Miss America Pageant. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross, serving on many blood drives and was active in the PTA and the Girl Scouts. She is the widow of Gerald Haines, former Chief of the Atlantic City Fire Department and a boat captain for the State of New Jersey. She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Aiken-Spruell and San (Haines) McKinney; her three grandsons, Jesse McKinney, D.C. Aiken and Daniel Aiken, her brother, Robert Levy, and her seven great grandchildren, Kyla McKinney, Sean Aiken, Kalie Aiken, William Aiken, Lindsey Aiken, Matthew Aiken and Sam Aiken. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dorothy's Life Celebration and Viewing Saturday, November 17th from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. at Keates and Plum Funeral Home, 3112 Brigantine Ave., Brigantine. Dottie, best known as a great conversationalist, hundreds remember her for starring in the water sports at the end of Steel Pier and for loving her husband, Gerry, and her daughter Sandy. May she rest in peace.
