Beech Fox Obituary



FOX, BEECH N., 73 - of Cape May Court House, died on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a lifetime resident of Cape May County. At 17 years old, before graduating in 1952 from Cape May High School, he joined the local unit of the New Jersey Army National Guard. He earned a Federal Commission as 2nd Lieutenant in 1975 and resigned in 1966 after rising to the rank of Captain and being assigned a s a Battery Commander with a charge of 70 men. Beech moved forward becoming a New Jersey State Trooper, serving from 1960-1969 at various barracks locations in South Jersey. Upon resigning from his duties as State Trooper, he campaigned and won office of Cape May County Sheriff from 1969 - 1984. Beech and his wife developed a small business in Rio Grande, Edgewood Village Mobile Home Park. Beech was founder of the Fisherman's Memorial, along with Capt. Wayne Halburner, Jeff Reichel, and many other supporters and friends. The Fisherman's Memorial is overlooking the harbor in Cape May. Beech served as a Commissioner of the MUA for ten years. He also served on the Middle Township Planning Board, and the Rent Leveling Board. He was a member of the League of Municipalities. Beech was a member of St. Raymond's Church. He enjoyed piloting his plane for pleasure flying and was an avid Eagles fan. Beech will be sadly missed by his wife, Phyllis; his daughter, Susan Fox and her husband, Eric Burgdorf; his son, Beech Fox and his wife, Donna Fox; his five grandchildren: Eric Burgdorf, Julie Ann Burgdorf, Beech Fox, Jr., Kasey Fox and Nikki Fox; and two sisters, Ethel Hoeflich and Sandra Denny. Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Raymond's Church, Bayshore Road, Villas, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery.
