Laoma Hasson Obituary

HASSON, LAOMA, (STEELMAN), 67 - of Key Largo, Florida, formerly of Margate, went to heaven on December 1, 2007, to eternally embrace her beloved children Ted (2000) and Susan (2005). Laoma was born in Atlantic City on February 8, 1940. Shortly after graduating from Atlantic City High School as member of the National Honor Society, she married her high school sweetheart, Harry T. Hasson, Jr. While raising her three children, she managed the financial affairs of the family flower business and volunteered. She was an active member of the Charity League, eventually becoming President in 1973-1974. She loved sports. She formed the first girl's softball league in Margate, and she loved to watch college football and basketball. She also talked frequently with her daughter Kelley about their mutual love of the New York Yankees. In the early 1990's, following many successful, hard-working years in the flower business, she and Harry "retired" to the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida. While Harry remained active in the flower business, Laoma was content spending her days relaxing peacefully by the pool, enjoying the beautiful Florida weather and "Keys" lifestyle. The frequent visits by Ted, Kelley and Susan, were a source of great joy for her. For a brief time, Susan also lived at the Ocean Reef club. In recent years, she took great pleasure in taking her grandchildren Katie and Lexy out to breakfast, racing golf carts, playing cards, hearing about their fishing exploits, dressing up for dinner and showing them off to her fellow "Reefers." She was a kind, compassionate, loving mother and grandmother. She was highly intelligent, extremely tenacious and had a very dry sense of humor. She was a thoughtful, sensitive, proud lady who lived her life in her own way. She is at peace now. She is survived by her former husband, Harry T. Hasson, Jr., of Ventnor, her daughter Kelley Blanchet (husband Alex) of Margate, her two grandchildren Katie and Lexy Blanchet and her sister Irma Conlin of Turnersville. A memorial service will be held at Margate Community Church on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by George H. Wimberg funeral home.

Dear Family of Laoma Hasson,

She was one of my closest childhood friends. A witty bright fun loving loyal friend. We shared many fun happy times in High School together. Living in California, I didn't see her too often after we got married but her door was always open to me when we came to Margate to visit.

We both were in each other's wedding and I will always remember her as a special "Margate" friend.

I have fond memeories of Laoma at Richmond Ave. school. Her claim to fame when we were small was that she could easily pull out her beautiful blonde hair. When she moved away Sandy and I missed her so we rode our bikes all the way to her house. She was a very nice young lady.

I was so blessed to be part of her life for the past 35 years. Mrs. Hasson leaves a tremendous imprint of my life. Her home was always open to me. She passed her generousity on to us as kids, encouraging charity through events such as M.S. fair in the yard. She really was a kid at heart. We worked with tennis on in the background and we loved balancing pears on top of apples and screaching at the site of a mouse! Working along side her in the old Segal bldg and then in Linwood, provided laughs galore! Her sarcastic wit never missed a beat (til the very end!!) I love you Mrs. Hasson I wish we could have enjoyed more of "paradise" together--you were a mother to all of us!! I know that your strength will inspire all of the lives you've touched. Kel, find comfort in knowing how much your mom accomplished in her time with us and how much she passed aong. I'LL NEVER FORGET~di

Dear Kelley, Alex, and Kids,
I just wanted to let you know how truly sad and sorry I am to hear of your mom passing away. I know Kelley wrote the obituary and it really summed up what a great lady your mom was. I have many happy, fun memories of my Aunt Laye and have been reliving them in my mind frequently over the past days. Kelley wrote something I have also been thinking, Aunt Laye is at peace now. You guys and my Aunt Laye are in my thoughts and prayers!
Bless you all.
