I knew Ralph from our days together at Chestnut Hill Academy. A rather large lumbering presence but very polite with a great sense of humor. Ralph was encouraged to go out for sports and had many run-ins with the AD (Jim McGlinn) at the time. His stories about being a short order cook at HoJo's near Arcadia (formerly Beaver) College were very memorable. My condolescences to his family and friends but I always will smile when I remember our conversations.

To the Stewart family,
I was stunned today to learn thru the Internet that Ralph had passed away. I've known Ralph for over 30 years thru my ex-husband, Alan McIlvaine, Jr. Ralph was a treasure with a heart even bigger than his own physical stature. And Ralph had the gift of gab, didn't he? I can still envision the first time I met him, knocking on my door one night in Glenside. Ralph was on the road a lot back in those days and he would always try to drop by when he was in the area. I still have black and white photos of my infant daughter that he took on a whim in 1977. Just finishing a roll of film, he said. But I always loved those few amazing shots that he took that morning. Other times he drop by just to drop off a loaf of lucious honey pumpernickel bread from a new bakery he'd discovered in Philly. That was Ralph, for sure. The paths of life take us thru all kinds of experiences, some good, some not so good. I think Ralph always found a positive side to life, no matter how deep it was hidden at times.
My deepest heartfelt condolences to you all. Love to Lorianne, Ralphie and Maria.

To Ralph's family and friends
Ralph and I were very close when he was at Chestnut Hill Academy. I am deeply saddened by his loss.
He towered over me by at least 2 feet. We sat (alphabetical) next to each other in study hall every day for all of those years. We joked, spoke, and not infrequently got in trouble together.
He was intrigued by my being Jewish in such a non-Jewish environment. He was always open and respectful. I am moved by the fact that he lived and died a person of faith - respected by friends and family.
May his memory be a blessing to his children and all who he touched during his life. My heart and prayers go out to all of you at this time of loss.

Though i hadn't seen Ralph in 40 years, i was very sorry to learn of his passing. Though he struggled in his new school, he was very sociable and a very nice boy at Chestnut Hill Academy. We played pool a few times together. Condolences to all his family. Bill Hall, class of 1970 at CHA.
