Michael Flanagan Obituary
FLANAGAN, MICHAEL P. JR. 88- of Brigantine, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday December 9, 2007. Michael was born in Atlantic City and he grew up in Cardiff. He graduated from the Atlantic City Trade School Electrical Class. He was a member of the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company. Michael played baseball with the Pleasantville A's. He was active in the Venice Park Youth Organization. Mike enlisted in the Navy during WW II, serving on the light cruiser Montpelier in the south Pacific as a First Class Petty Officer. The ship received 13 Battle Star's and a Navy Unit Citation for the battle of Empress Augusta Bay on October 2, 1943. After the war Michael started M.P. Flanagan Electrical Contracting Company, a company he operated for over 48 years. Michael is a Lifetime Member of the VFW Post 6964 in Brigantine. Michael was the beloved husband of the late Alice M. and he is survived by his sons Michael P. Flanagan III (Ann) and John D. Flanagan. He is also survived by his grandchildren Michael IV, Robert and Michele, his great-grandson Christopher, his brothers John Flanagan (Dolly) and James Flanagan. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Michael's Life Celebration and viewing Saturday December 15, 2007 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Saint Thomas Church, 8Th Street and Brigantine Ave. Brigantine. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Interment Laurel Memorial Park, Pomona. Dear Family, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Flanagan just two months ago. We had very meaningful conversation several days of the week. What I remember most was how excited he would get when we discussed young people and education.
