Zelma Phillips Obituary

Zelma Jones Phillips, 95, of Petersburg, passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008.

Born in Granville County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Lonnie James and Gracie Yancey Jones. Mrs. Phillips was employed by Celanese for 13 years and by two Petersburg printing companies for a total of 30 years. She was a longtime member of West End Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Albert Robert Phillips.

She is survived by her sisters, Erdine Brandon, Rebecca Heath and Beth Johnson; brothers, Howard Jones and Reid Jones.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Entombment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to West End Baptist Church, 6506 Boydton Plank Road, Petersburg, VA 23803. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

My family and I were saddened to hear of Mrs. Phillips passing. She was a good neighbor and friend the years we lived in Western Hills. Mrs. Phillips and her husband will both be missed.
