Patricia Chavis Obituary

Patricia Yvonne Chavis, 63, of Chesterfield County, VA passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 at her home after a brief struggle with cancer. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of Mildred Coney Sims and the late Clifford Sims. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Deborah Sims and Windy Sims and her grandmother Ruby Sims.

She was employed with the Peterburg School System (Cafeteria). Special thanks to the American Cancer Society and the American Hospice Foundation staff for their dutiful and dedicated care to Patricia during her illness. They are to be highly commended for their support and care for mankind.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Eugene Chavis Jr. of Petersburg; her mother, Mildred Coney Sims of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Clifford Sims Jr. of California; three sons, Richard Goode and wife Julia of Tampa, Fla.; Jeffrey Goode and wife Jackie of Hopewel and Shawn Goode of Atlanta, Ga.; two step-children Deltreece Chavis and Eugene Chavis III of Athens, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her special child, Jamal Downey.

A memorial service of a celebrated life will be held for Mrs. Chavis at 6:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church 7419 Boydton Plank Road in Dinwiddie County, located near the Eastside Community Enhancement Center, 804-863-0864. A public viewing will be held Monday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Oak Grove Baptist Church.

The family may be visited at the home or call 804-524-0956. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 in Decatur, Ga., at 11 a.m. at the Gregory Levitt Funeral home, 4347 Flat Shoals Parkway, 404-241-5656. The internment will be in the Washington Memorial Cemetery, Decatur, Ga.

In lieu of flowers the family requests you consider a memorial tribute to the American Cancer Society and the American Hospice Foundation. Professional services confided to the care of a team of funeral service providers at the Shirley P. Johnson Funeral Home, Petersburg, 804-733-8842.
