Bessie Griffin Obituary

Bessie Selma Griffin, 101, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008.

She was the daughter of the late Charlie Richard and Mildred Wilkins Griffin, and was married for 52 years to the late Louis Taft Griffin.

She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, George Griffin, Belt Griffin, Cornelius Griffin, Blanche Mahler, Agnes Comer, Josephine Beaman, Virginia Comer, Beulah Perdue, Dorothy Lowery, Goode Griffin, Ruby Lowery, and Arlene Poole.

Mrs. Griffin was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens Club, the AARP, and the Women of the Moose.

Mrs. Griffin was a retired machine operator with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company.

She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 in the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road with the Rev. Jim Pfost officiating.

Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and Saturday morning one hour prior to the service. Flowers are welcome, or contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
