Willie Smith Obituary

Ms. Willie Mae Smith was born Feb. 14, 1938, in St. Paul, N.C. She resided at 1046 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA and departed this life on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008.

Willie Mae was preceded in death by her mother, Ronner "Nellie" Smith and father, Octavis Smith.

Willie Mae spent several memorable years as a security guard for Gilhaven Manor in Petersburg, Va.

She is survived by her brothers, John Smith of North Carolina, William "Billy" Smith, James Daniel Smith and Floyd Smith all of Petersburg, Va.; six sisters, Minnie Young, Thelma Robinson and Margaret Smith, all of Petersburg, Va., Nettie Bell Cobbs, Daisy Bain and Jannie Smith of North Carolina; her loving caregiver and niece, Angel Young-Gill (Lenny) of Dinwiddie, Va; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA. The Rev. Leroy Cherry, pastor of Third Baptist Church, Petersburg, officiating. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at the funeral establishment.

The family will also receive friends at 1046 Halifax St., Petersburg and may be contacted by calling (804) 733-7339.
