William Smith Obituary

William John Smith, 61, of DeWitt, died on Dec. 3, 2008, at Southside Regional Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Lonnie W. and Margaret Merten Smith. He was a member of Dinwiddie Baptist Church and worked for Crowder Construction Co. as a truck driver. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict.

Mr. Smith is survived his wife, Mary Sue Clay Smith; two daughters, Lori Smith of Petersburg and Tina Smith of Hopewell; one brother, Lonnie G. Smith of Prince George; one sister, Janie Franklin of Georgia; one stepsister and stepbrother; and two granddaughters, Ashley and Nikki.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Dinwiddie Baptist Church with the Rev. John Burnette officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Christian Church Cemetery, DeWitt. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dinwiddie Baptist Church, 14818 Wilkerson Road, DeWitt, VA 23840, or Prospect Christian Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Margaret G. Lewis, 10601 Trinity Church Road, Church Road, VA 23833. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
