James Butler Obituary

James William Butler, 87, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. Butler and Sarah Ella Garrett Butler; brothers, Thomas, George, and John Butler; and his sisters, Mary Jinnett and Louise Wellington.

Mr. Butler served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, retired from the Petersburg Utility Department, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a former member of Crater View Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys H. Butler; son, James R. Butler; and daughter, Linda C. Butler. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Washington Memorial Park. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Gladys, Randy, & Linda,
I don't know if you will see this entry, but I am sending you a card also. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of loss. Mr. Buttler was a quiet man and we missed having him at church in the years he was unable to come. We love you all. I know you will have the comfort of our Saviour as you go through these difficult days and weeks ahead.
