James Jones Obituary

James Melvin "Mel" Jones, 78, of Colonial Heights, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009. He was the son of the late James Landon and Dora Lee Guy Jones, and was preceded in death by a sister Katherine McMahon. Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from the United States Postal Service Petersburg office. He was a charter member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. He is survived by his wife Thelma Beth Jones; two daughters, Karen Chamberlain, of Church Road, Va, Nancy Skinner and husband Ronnie of Ford, Va; granddaughter, Jamie Knox of Chester, Va.; grandson, Michael Chamberlain of Church Road, Va; great-grandson Jacob Baker of Chester, Va; great granddaughter Madison Knox also of Chester, Va; two brothers Edward Jones and wife Sarah of Florida and Kenneth Jones and wife JoAn of Colonial Heights, Va; along with numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday January 28, 2009 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church

3110 Greenwood Avenue Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834, with the Reverends Wayne Johnson and Reverend Andrew Brockelman and officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund.
