Marsden Earle Obituary

EARLE, MARSDEN PERRY, JR., 79, of Benefit Street, died on Saturday, August 9, 2008.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Marsden Perry Earle and Elizabeth Holmes Earle. He grew up in Oaklawn and Providence, graduated from Moses Brown School and attended Brown University before entering the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Graduated in 1952, he was commissioned in the Field Artillery and served 21 years in the Army, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and in Bitburg/Spangdahlem, Germany. Assignments included Senior Project Officer, Combat Developments Command, and Study Director, Air Defense Agency, Ft. Bliss, Texas; Intelligence Analyst, Defense Analysis Facility, Hickam AFB, Hawaii; Executive Secretary, Army Scientific Advisory Panel, Office of Chief of Research and Development, Washington, D.C. He attended the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

After retirement to his home in Duxbury, Mass. in 1973, he received an MBA in Finance from Babson College, and became a registered representative, later an investment manager at Tucker, Anthony Management Co. In 1986, he founded MPE Investserv, an investment advisor, joining Patriot Mullaire Associates in 1999.

He served in many community organizations in Duxbury and Plymouth, including Duxbury Rural & Historical Society, Duxbury Yacht Club, The Pilgrim Society and Jordan Hospital. He was a long-time member of the Catboat Association and an enthusiastic horseman. A resident of Providence since 1996, he was a member of the Hope Club and the Society of Colonial Wars.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Alexandra, his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Frederick Stevens, and their family: Wyatt, Giselle and Alice Stevens, and Elizabeth, Antonio and Elizabeth Giannechini, and many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at The First Unitarian Church of Providence, at the corner of Benefit & Benevolent Streets, on August 20th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Mars was such a kind, gentle man. I will always remember his expertise in planning the 300th Celebration for Stephen Hopkins. His contribution helped to make the day a wonderful memory for all of us. I will miss him. Robin Tremblay
