I came across a letter today that Mary Anne wrote to me not long after she had moved to Colorado, and I was reminded of her intelligence and poetic mind. We were friends when we both lived in Madison WI, which was a long time ago, but beauty casts a long shadow. I´m sorry we never got to talk again.

I am saddened to hear of Mary Anne's passing. I went to St. Anthony Grade School as well as Boylan with her.
I always thought she was a wonderfully unique person, and enjoyed her company through our years in school together. Thoughts to her family and students, as I am sure she will be deeply missed.

Ms Drago was my son Henry Plavets teacher when he was in elementary school, and he liked her very much. He is now 21 and living an independant life in San Antonio Texas. I am sure it was her being part of his life all those years ago that helped make him who he is today. She was an exelent special education teacher. She will be very missed by all the people in the Durand school district. We are very sorry for the loss of someone so talented and caring. Gail, Nick and Henry Plavets

Mary Anne Drago was such a wonderful, supportive, and inspirational teacher for my son. I credit her with helping him believe in himself and the fact that he is succeeding in college today is, no doubt, because she had a deep understanding of my son, his challenges, and his gifts. Also, it meant so much to us that she called me to tell me that she was very excited that we decided to enroll my son in Boylan High School and her assurance that it was a good choice for him helped us feel confident. I feel so fortunate that we had the chance to thank her for her dedication and hard work and her compassion.

We are holding her in our thoughts and prayers.

Mary Anne and I taught together at Harlem High in the 70's. We went to see King Tut together! We lost touch over the years and I was saddened to see she had passed.

We were blessed to know MaryAnne through our children; Allison and Hunter. She has been a significant presence in our children's lives for over 6 years as each of them has progressed through her classroom. Over this past week while facing her loss, each of my children has reflected on many of the things that made them like her so much. They found her easy to enjoy because she sincerely reminded all of her students that they were like her very own children, each with their own imprint upon her. She was patient and kind, often inspiring creative qualities in each of them to help ease the frustration of lessons that were difficult to learn. As this week has passed my daughter has often talked about how she will miss sharing with MaryAnne talks of their love for animals and the interest she showed in Allison's latest drawings. My son has expressed how he will miss even the smallest and most routine of encounters he often had with her in the morning before school started and throughout his day. It is with great sorrow and sincere sympathy that we extend our condolences to MaryAnne's family and close freinds for she was truly admired and deeply respected and we will miss her.

Thank God for sending Mary Anne to the Durand School District. She, George Letcher, and I bonded with her immediately. She was so concerned about her students, and would check with us daily as to how they were doing. During parent/teacher conferences she would tell parents, to let their child try the regular classroom. They would always succeed because of her faith in them.
We shared lunch times. It was always an interesting time, when we could relieve the morning pressures of dealing with 4th - 6th graders. We laughed a lot about school related things. It relieved the stress that comes with teaching.
I loved Mary Anne's witty comebacks and quick wit. Often times we left the teacher's lounge laughing so hard, our mascara was running down our faces.
We also had our times of crying over sad things: her mother dieing, Hershey being put down. But there were also the times we had to tell humorous stories about our aging parents. Again, another stress reliever.
The thing that I will miss the most about Mary Anne is the funny e-mails that she sent. Where did she get all of them from? Many of my friends have asked, "Where did you get that one from?" I would always reply, "My FRIEND, Mary Anne Drago!"
One of the last e mails I received from Mary Anne was a reply that I had sent to her asking for prayers for my daughter. She sent the reply to me 2 days before her accident telling me that she had put my daughter, sons, and me on the top of her prayer list. I cried when I got this e mail from her. Now, I am praying for Mary Anne. She is at the top of my prayer list, as are all who loved her.
Thank you for being my FRIEND. I know that you will hear me in heaven.
You may be gone from here, Mary Anne, but you will ALWAYS live in my heart and soul.

Love you always,
Ginny Borth

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, the family of MaryAnne Drago. Our son was a student of MaryAnne's and he is going to miss her so much. She was an ear when he needed one and a heart when he needed understanding and compassion. She was a blessing to our family and know that God has called home one of his angels.
