Mary Dunn Obituary

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Mary K. Dunn, 87 of Burlington, Vt., died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at her home after a short battle with lung cancer.

She was born in Meriden, on Sept. 20, 1919, the only child of Frankie and Mary Kirby. She graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School in New York in 1939. Upon graduating from Katie Gibbs she went into Red Cross and traveled extensively in Europe and Asia during and after the war. At one point she had a gift store, Kirby's, in Meriden, but her itchy feet got the better of her and she went back to traveling and working abroad. However her lifelong hobby of collecting and decorating continued. She eventually returned to Connecticut and went to work for what was then Connecticut Light and Power where she met Alexander Dunn and they married in 1957. She came to Vermont after she retired from the State of Connecticut in 1988, and spent many wonderful years at The Terraces Retirement Community in Shelburne.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Kirby Dunn of Burlington, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to HomeShare Vermont, 187 St. Paul St., Burlington, VT 05401. Mary will be returned to lie with her husband and mother and father at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden, on Friday, May 11, at 12 noon.
