William Ruebman Obituary

December 29, 1930 - June 12, 2008

Formerly of Hortonville, NY

William "Bill" T. Ruebman of Converse, TX since 2002 and a former resident of Hortonville, NY, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008 in San Antonio, TX. He was 77.

The son of the late William and Hildegard Ebert Ruebman, he was born December 29, 1930 in Danbury, CT. He was the widower of Imogene "Jean" Ruebman, who passed away on June 30, 2006.

He was raised on the family farm in Buck Brook, graduating from Delaware Valley Central School in 1946. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1948 as an aircraft mechanic, retiring after 26 years in 1974, as a Chief Master Sergeant. His military awards include a Bronze Star, several Meritorious Service medals, Air Force Commendation medals and other decorations. Bill served tours in both Vietnam and Thailand as the Chief of Aircraft Maintenance. He also served tours in Japan, the Philippines, Germany, and numerous stateside Air Force bases.

Bill worked for many years at both the Sullivan County International Airport, and the Monticello Airport as the Chief, aircraft safety inspector and mechanic. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Allan Milk Memorial Post #7276, of Long Eddy, NY, having held the post of Quartermaster for 12 years. He was a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Air Force Association.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Sterchak of Garland, TX and Karen Murphy of Tampa, FL; three grandchildren: Shawn Murphy of Tampa, FL, Gwendolyn Sterchak of Allen, TX and William Sterchak of Garland, TX; his sister, Norma Ruebman Wightman and her husband, Peter of Morrow Bay, CA; brother, Robert Ruebman and his wife, Wendy of Berkeley, CA; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are by Funeral Caring of San Antonio, TX.

A Family memorial service will be held on August 3, 2008 on the family farm in Buck Brook. Internment will be along side his wife, Jean at the U.S. Army Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX.

Donations in his name can be made to the Delaware Youth Center, PO Box 354, Callicoon, NY 12723.
