Richard Carey Obituary

Formerly of Goshen, NY

Mr. Richard Henry Carey, age 85, of 906-D Moore Circle, Americus, GA, died on Sunday afternoon at Sumter Regional Hospital.

Mr. Carey was a native of Goshen, NY, born the son of the late Michael Henry and Lucy Loretta Carey.

Mr. Carey was a member of the Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II as a Tech Sgt. in China, Burma and India areas. He was a life member of the Middletown Pistol and Rifle Club of Middletown, NY; a life member of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, charter member of the Washington Heights Fire Company of the Town of Wallkill, Middletown, NY and its first 2nd Asst. Chief and Fire Commissioner and instrumental in helping with its formation. He was also past Asst. Chief of the Stratford Fire Company, in Stratford, NY. He was also the owner of Dick's Garage and Radiator Service in Middletown.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Clif Marquis officiating. Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the family residence, 906-D Moore Circle, Americus, GA 31709.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the League of the Good Samaritan, C/O Magnolia Manor, 2001 South Lee St., Americus, GA 31709, United Hospice of Cordele, 708 East 16th Ave., Cordele, GA 31015, or St. Mary's Catholic Church, 332 South Lee St., Americus, GA 31709.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane Carey, of Americus, GA; one sister, Lucy M. Kohler of Goshen and one friend who has been like a son, Gaylord Fuller of Montague, NJ. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Carey in 1988.
