Florence Call Obituary

Bedford, NH

Mrs. Florence F. "Babe" Call, 88, of Bedford, NH, died July 17, 2008 at the Boston Medical Center.

She was born May 3, 1920, in Nottingham, NH, the daughter of Edward and Elvira (Chase) Fletcher.

Her family moved to the Manchester area when she was in elementary school. She was a 1939 graduate of Central High School and received a Bachelor's of Arts from the University of New Hampshire in 1943, where she was a member of the Alpha Z Delta Sorority. She married William T. Call, Jr. on January 22, 1947 at Camp Mackall, NC.

She enjoyed living with her family throughout the United States and overseas during her husband's military career. The family returned to the Bedford area in 1978 following her husband's retirement.

She was a supporter of military wives and enjoyed participating in a variety of clubs, golfing, bowling, gardening, cooking and playing Bridge. She belonged to the Manchester Country Club and was a Golfing Champion, as well as a gourmet cook and the consummate hostess of the hundreds of parties and dinners she gave throughout her life. She was an excellent and loving mother and wife, and took great pride in her family.

In Her Life: Her son, William T. Call, III, preceded her in death in 1988.

She is survived by her loving family and many friends, including: her husband, Col. William T. Call, Jr. (Ret.); two daughters, Angela Call of New York and Candy Tormey of Virginia; granddaughter, Tara Tormey; a sister, Connie Morris of Manchester, NH; and nephews, Chris and Michael Morris.

A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, July 22 from 12-1 p.m. at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut Street, Manchester, NH. The Reverend Carolyn Keilig will officiate the funeral service that will follow at 1 p.m., also to be held at the funeral home. Interment will be at the West Point Cemetery, in West Point, NY later in the week.

I teach in the Department of Physical Education at West Point. I understand COL(Ret) and Mrs. Call were stationed in my department prior to my arrival, and I would like to express my condolences to him and his family.
