Donald Jamison Obituary

Stuyvesant, NY

After a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, Donald Jamison of Stuyvesant, passed away Friday evening, July 18, 2008 at age 83.

There will not be a funeral locally. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Thompson Ridge, NY (Orange County) to celebrate his life and to inter his ashes the Jamison Family plot at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Don Jamison, the son of Alma (Schumann) and George S. Jamison, was born in Ridgewood, NJ, but grew up in Glens Falls, NY. A graduate of Glens Falls High School, he also attended Norwich and Cornell Universities.

Don, with his brother Graham (Mike), ran their Ridgefields Dairy Farm in Thompson Ridge for over 40 years. He was an elder of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, sang in their choir, served on numerous agricultural boards such as the Farm Home Administration, GLF (which became Agway) and Dairyman's League. He also was Chair of Town of Crawford Democratic Committee. Serving in the Army Air Force in World War II, he was a radio operator on a B-29 bomber.

He was an amateur sculptor and avid skier of the Catskills, Adirondacks, the Rockies, the Sierra Nevadas and the Alps. Loving travel and new experiences, he visited Mexico, Europe and most recently, Alaska. Gifted with a quick wit, a sense of humor and a charming personality, Don made friends wherever he went.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Swinton Jamison; his children: Lee Jamison of Stuyvesant, Beth Jamison Shapiro of Ada, MI, Richard Jamison and his wife, Carol of Concord, MA; eight grandchildren: Emily and Donald (Jamie) Larson, Daniel, Katherine and Nathaniel Shapiro, Michael, Rebecca and Catherine Jamison. His brother, Graham S. Jamison and his family reside in Thompson Ridge, NY. His sister, Doris Jamison Sowdon and his parents are deceased.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Columbia Greene, 47 Liberty St., Catskill, NY 12414.
