Samuel Johnson Obituary

Highland, NY

Samuel Johnson was born on August 8, 1929 in Henderson, NC to the union of the late Reverend John B. Johnson and Katie Sneed Johnson. He was the second oldest of 13 siblings. At an early age Samuel joined Flat Creek Baptist Church, Henderson, NC. Samuel attended Henderson Institute High School, Henderson, NC. Upon completion of his education, Samuel enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two duties during the Korean War. During his service period he trained and worked as a tailor. Samuel expired on Friday, July 25 at the Hudson Highland Rehabilitation Extended Card Center, Highland, NY, where he was a resident for the past year and a half.

Samuel was retired from the Ford Motor Company, Mahwah, NJ.

Samuel was loved by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his quick response "all you have to do is..."

Samuel "the old boy" as he was affectionately called, leaves to cherish his memories two brothers, Joseph Johnson, New York City and Rev. John B. Johnson, Jr., Newburgh, NY; five sisters, Mary Lou Reid, Anderson, SC, Sarah Purnell, Atlantic City, NJ, Nancy (Luther) McClellan, Galloway, NJ, Katie McNabb, Wappingers Falls, NY and Dardanella Russell, Newburgh, NY; many nieces and nephews; a loving companion, Elma Rich (his Sweet Pea), many relatives and friends.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Artelia Roberts and four brothers, David, Phillip, Simon and Robert Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29 from 7-9 p.m. at Brutus W. Hodge Funeral Home, 13 Chambers St., Newburgh, NY.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30 at Baptist Temple Church, 7 William St., Newburgh, NY with Rev. Byron E. Williams, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Middlehope, NY. Visitation on Wednesday will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
