Thora Zimmerman Obituary
Thora A. Zimmerman, nee Thueson, of New Windsor, NY, entered into rest on August 4, 2008. She was 87.
Born and raised in the Newburgh area, she was the daughter of Eline K. and Christian F. Thueson.
Thora Zimmerman graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, Class of 1940.
Thora Zimmerman was an active member of her community. She participated in a multitude of charities and organizations, among them: prison reform, wildlife issues, VFW, DAV, Castle Point Veterans Hospital, and while she was an anti-war activist, she also cut out food coupons to send to armed forces families.
The widow of John A. Zimmerman, who passed away in 1990, she spent the last ten years with her dear friend and companion, William Scott.
She will be greatly missed by her family, to each of whom she was a comfort and confidant. She had the rare generosity of allowing each of them to be themselves.
Her children are Eline K. Barclay, widow of Clayton Barclay, Alice Zimmerman Weiner and Lawrence Weiner, Mary Ann Filardi and Gregory Filardi, Jack A. Zimmerman, and stepson, Dennis Dunn; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her brother, Mark A. Thueson; sister, Alice Olympia; sister-in-law, Dorothy Jameson; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY, on Friday, August 8, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Burial will be the following day at Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor, NY, at 11 a.m., attended by Mr. James Bridges of the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Alice, I was sad to hear about the loss of your Mother. Thora was a unique person who always had an open mind and an open heart. Although I Haven't seen you in many years I think of you and your family often. Please accept my sincerest sympathy...Beaner

To All: My best memories of Thora were at the family reunions with Aunt Dot, Uncle Tom, My grandmother and the entire extended family. Unfortunate as it is, families get big and drift apart. My dad was very fond of his cousin John and loved Thora. He always said she brought a new level of interest to the family. Undoubtedly she is somewhere in the great beyond, be it heaven or just over the hill yonder, enjoying a new family reunion with Aunt Dot, Uncle Tom, "Aunt Margie" and my dad, Chuck. On behalf of the Mitchell family, our sincerest condolences and to Thora, thank you for being such a wonderful part of the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mother was a wonderful person who did so much with her life. I enjoyed meeting her when she came to swim
at the town facility in Highland Mills. I am glad we had that day. You were all so good to her.
