Eugene Meyer Obituary

Cochecton Center, NY

Eugene Charles Meyer, a lifelong resident of Cochecton Center, passed away at Catskill Regional Medical Center on August 6, 2008. He was 74.

He was born in Cochecton Center on December 21, 1933 to the late Jacob and Madeline Meyer and lived his entire life in the house where he was born.

He married Mildred Elizabeth Niessen on September 20, 1958. He is survived by his wife; four sons, David and wife, Nanette of Yorktown, VA, Steven and wife, Jenny of Windsor, NY, Thomas and wife, Penny of Conklin, NY and John and wife, Gina of Cochecton Center. Also, 12 grandchildren: Megan and husband, Dan, Vanessa and husband, Jeffrey, Lindsey, Jason, Christopher, Katrina, Joseph, Randi, Stephanie, Danielle, Jordan and Olivia; one brother, Joseph Meyer and wife, Maria and numerous nieces and nephews.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 with the 168th Engineers Battalion in Germany.

He belonged to the Brotherhood of Carpenters Union for 19 years. In 1979, he became the Department Head for new buildings at the Villa Roma in Callicoon. Over the years he was proud of the many buildings and renovations he supervised. After the tragic fire in April 2006, he was unable to see the completion of the new building, due to his failing health.

He is predeceased by his parents and two half brothers, John and Henry Meyer and their children, Betty, John Jr. and Kenneth.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday, August 10 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 11 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church, Lake Huntington, NY with the Rev. William Scully O.F.M. officiating.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Narrowsburg, NY.

Donations may be made in his name to the Cochecton Ambulance Corp. and to St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, 151 Bridge St., Narrowsburg, NY 12764.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY.
