Vincent Basilicato Obituary
Vincent F. Basilicato, 86, of Ellenville, died August 1, 2008 at Harris Regional Hospital, Monticello, NY.
He was born September 27, 1922 in Paterson, NJ to the late Pelogrino and Carmella Basilicato. In addition to his parents, Mr. Basilicato was preceded in death by a brother, Albert; a sister, Jennie, as well as his beloved wife of 46 years, Madeline (Alice) Boyle Basilicato.
After graduation from high school, Mr. Basilicato became a professional musician until he entered the military service on February 22, 1943. Mr. Basilicato was highly decorated for his military service in central Europe to include the prestigious Croix De Guirre medal for his participation in the Normandy Invasion, as well as the battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest. Upon his release from military service in October 1945, Mr. Basilicato returned to his professional musician status and played with many well known bands throughout the United States while serving as a mentor/tutor to aspiring musicians in the New Jersey area.
Mr. Basilicato moved his family to Ellenville, NY in 1960 and became a permanent musician with the Art Kahn band at the Nevele Hotel. He later managed the Smoke Shop in the Nevele until becoming the Music Instructor at the Napanoch Correctional Institution until his retirement in May 2008.
Mr. Basilicato is survived by his four children, Kathleen (Basilicato) Kirschner of Clearwater, FL, Barbara (Spadaro) Basilicato of Locust Grove, VA, Denise (Basilicato) Skeen of Kerhonkson, NY and Vincent Basilicato of Winter Park, FL; six grandchildren, Brandon Kirschner, Lisa (Kirschner) Brannon, Kimberlee (Spadaro) Blyer and Christopher Spadaro, Kelly Skeen, Mathew Skeen; five great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
Final arrangements are being handled by the Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville, NY. A memorial service will be held at the Saint Mary's/Saint Andrew's Church on August 16 at 10 a.m., Ellenville. A private interment is planned at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eight Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
