Paul McArdle Obituary
Harriman, NY
Paul A. McArdle, 75, of Harriman, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008.
Paul was born to Thomas and Helen McArdle in Salem, MA. Paul graduated college from the University of Chicago, and earned a Master's from Emory University.
Paul spent four years in the Marine Corps, and then began his career teaching high school Math. He then started his own computer consulting business in the 1970's, and understood and worked in the computer field long before computers were commonplace. He then started his own computer company, Telemar, Inc.; which sold the TeleMarshal Telephone Management system. Paul designed the system, incorporated the company himself, and did all the sales, marketing, and service for his clients. In Paul's spare time, he also devoted many years to the Rockland County Sheriffs Patrol, serving as a mounted Police Officer.
Paul ended his career teaching math at West Side High School in Newark, NJ. Paul was a terrific Math teacher, and he brought students from West Side High to New Jersey's Math Olympics for the first time in the school's history. Paul believed in his students, and gave them the confidence to achieve, even when the school and the neighborhood were working against them.
His life passions included farming, sailing, horses, computers, ballet, politics and philosophy, and at 75, could often be found re-roofing or restoring the home in Harriman. He taught his children that an educated person never stops learning, and that whatever you wanted to know or do in life, there was always at least one great book that could teach you how to master it. His latest passion was a regimen of natural foods and vitamins, and he understood that good nutrition was the most important way to heal the body.
Paul is survived by his former spouse, Ruth McArdle of Helena, MT; his three children: Laura McArdle of Healy, AK, Daniel McArdle of Helena, MT and Thomas McArdle of Helena, MT, and three grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
The family also wishes to thank Paul's many neighbors in the Village of Harriman for their support and prayers.
The family will have a private ceremony in Helena, MT. Paul's ashes will be buried at Fort Harrison in Helena, MT, befitting the proud Marine he was.
Anyone wishing to express respects could remit a donation made out to "The National Hospice Foundation" and mail attention to Thomas McArdle, 335 N. Ewing, Apt. 3, Helena, MT 59601. Thomas will be running the Chicago Marathon on October 12, 2008 in memory of Paul McArdle and is raising money to benefit Hospice, which provides invaluable respite care to the terminally ill and their survivors.
