Rarley in life do you come across such a special and innocent sole.... Montgomery now appears empty! Everyday, the one thing myself and my children truely enjoyed was seeing Richie and talking to him about the daily happenings. Everyone has truely lost a great friend and member of our own extended family. Best regards!

Richie was my cousin, and therefore a fairly regular guest at my front door. We would often sit on our front porch in the evening (as many people used to do) and we were generally sure of a visit from Richie with the news of the day. It was better than having a local newspaper! This surely is the end of an era, and we will all miss our icon of friendliness. But there is no doubt in my mind that Richie will be there to greet any of us lucky enough to make it to heaven!

Dear Reynolds Family: I was born and raised in Montgomery and all I remember is Richie always being the MAN OF THE TOWN. Whether it be a parade,General Montgomery Day, or just an ordinary day you could always count on Richie to brighten your day with his personality. I'll always remember him stopping by my house @ lunchtime for a PB&J sandwich, and then he would sit on our front porch giving everyone his signature point. I'll miss him. God Bless You All.

To the Reynolds family,
We learned last night with great sadness of Richie's passing. What a shock, as we prepare to travel north for Gen. Montgomery Day. Richie always welcomed us back with such natural warmth. It always felt "official" when we saw him that we really had come back home. Montgomery Day won't be the same without him! Our deepest condolences to your family.
Most sincerely,

Having recently moved to Melbourne, Fl from Montgomery, Richie was one of those things about Montgomery that we missed. He truly defined what a small village like Montgomery was all about. Whenever we met him, either on the street or in the Clinton street cafe,he always took the time to stop and say hello. We missed him when we moved to Fl. and will truly miss him now that God has called him home. Montgomery will not be the same.

Unbelievable, for some reason, I thought and know now that Richie will live on forever. Though not physically now, but truly in all of the hearts that knew Richie and or came in the slightest contact. A very extraordinary man. How did he know, whether it was 18 years ago since he saw you and recognized you or if it was the first encounter to make sure he knew you and that you would never forget him. WOW. Our family spoke of him fondly for years although we had left the Montgomery area in 1977. Whenever we spoke of Montgomery or New York, Richie was in our conversation. The hello dear! the finger wave, the updates, just like everyone has mentioned. A truly genuine human being. We may never meet another man like him. I will accept his passing, only knowing that he is an angel among us still! My condolences to his family and the Fire department and the village of Montgomery. He will walk the town in everyones eyes forever. We miss you Richie.

I've recently moved back to the area, but knew Richie since the late 60s at VCHS. He knew everyone and always kept us updated on the scores and happenings at school and around town. I just read all of the other entries, and know your hearts must be as touched as mine by all of the wonderful memories your neighbors have shared. It will be bittersweet to go to Montgomery Day this year and not see Richie. I know everyone will be thinking about him and missing his big friendly smile. He had a warm and joyous soul and our lives were better for knowing him.

Wow, surprising to hear such news. Regardless of where you live, if you came from Montgomery it is a sad day. So many people are afraid to talk to strangers, but Richie had no inhibitions. Special, one of a few that showed us how to embrace our neighbors. It will not be the same driving through the village not seeing him in the distance anticipating the precision markmanship of his trigger finger then waving back.

Sincerely, Christopher, Belinda, Andrew, Daniel, Erik and Ferris Wernau

To The Reynold's Family: We are so sorry for your loses. I remember the first time Richie met our son Sean when he was 8 weeks old. He told us before we know it, he will be riding on a fire truck going to a call. He was so sweet and took the time to make sure you knew you were so important to him. Always positive and with a smile that would light up the room. God gave us an very special person and we are all better people for knowing Richie. Thank you for teaching us so much Richie and you will truly misssed. God blessed.

Encountered Richie for the first time in 7th grade while attending VC High (Jr. High building yet to be completed). Richie had the same lunch period as I and he was always circulating in the cafeteria, saying hello, chatting up the next football game, high school event, anything & everything! I can clearly hear his voice and picture him as if it were yesterday. His friendliness and honesty overwhelmed you instanty and you couldn't help but like him. When visiting and driving about over the years I would occasionaly spot Richie, telling my wife what he meant to Montgomery. It was great to see Montgomery honor Richie as they did. I have read all of the entries in Ritchie's guest book and they are all so true. He really did touch everyone in such a special way. I have known Ritchie since 7th grade at VCHS, and as everyone says, it didn't matter how long you were gone from the area, he always knew who you were when our paths crossed again. Ritchie was right in front of me in our commencement for graduation. I can still hear us laughing trying to stay in those half steps. It is so true he will be missed by so many people. I do hope that they dedicate this year's Montgomery Day to him, as he was Montgomery and all the good things about it. Rest in peace Ritchie.

Bob, Cindy, and Bobby,
We were so heartbroken when we heard about the passing of our dear friend Richie. There will be a huge void in our backyard without our buddy. We will miss him stopping over to visit us and our children almost daily. The kids especially will miss his "ahh..what's up doc?", his Abbott and Costello..who's on first? bit, and his hi-fives. I will miss him yelling over "Hey..what's going on dear?" or "what'dya got goin' on this weekend?" We'll miss hearing that lucky for all of us this day has been quiet (no fires..etc) and hearing about his good times at the many happenings in the town, village or surrounding towns. We'll miss running into him everywhere downtown. Montgomery will not be the same without him. We've shared many special days with Richie Rich (as Lia called him)... birthday parties, trips to the ice cream stand, football games...etc. Our family loved him too as he was always over to say hello to them as they visited.
Richie was a special man. God gave us a special soul for our neighbor. Life won't be the same without him. We're sorry for your loss Bob and family. We love you. We loved Richie with all of our hearts. We will miss our "mayor" of Montgomery and can't wait to hear him say "Hey, what took you so long...C'mon in" when we get to heaven. We love you Richie Rich!!! We hope you know how much!!!

Richie........... Genuine, wonderful, thoughtful, caring, honest, cheerful, innocent, entertaining, Richie, we all love you and miss you terribly already. Who will remind me what I'm doing this weekend, who will be outside our door asking how the kids are, who will I ride into town with in the morning. ... What's up Doc? What a beautiful Day! How'd the Yankees do last night? What's going on down at Stewart? How's your nephew? ... Richie, you were the only real Angel I've ever known. Thanks for welcoming our family to our home next door to you, and thanks for being my best friend. I wish we knew you longer. You were ALL the things that are good in life.

November, 1976, we arrived in Montgomery, up from NJ, a bit early for our real estate appointment and decided to have a cup of coffee at Howard's. Richie walked in, pulled up a chair, sat down and asked us, "So, when are you folks moving up?" We knew right then and there that Montgomery would be our home. Thank you, Richie.

We are so sad to hear about your loss. Richie was an icon in Montgomery and will sorely be missed. I can remember sitting in Phil the Barber's chair when I was 8 years old and Richie walking in to say howdy to everyone. Actually I can remember being 40 years old and him doing the same thing all over town. He always remembered a face and name even if he only met you once. He was a great asset to the Village of Montgomery.

To the Reynolds family,
Deepest sympathy for your loss. I remember Richie from way back in my days at VCHS, when he'd always say "Hey, how're you doin'?" in his wonderful deep voice. Then he'd have some bit of current events, like "Hear about the big fire in Montgomery?" He always had a cheerful outlook on life. Years later, my husband was lucky enough to meet Richie at our Decade Reunion. he next day, we were in Montgomery and ran into Richie again and he gave us a tour of town, especially proud to point out the firehouse where he worked.
Richie was a one of a kind individual. Everyone who encountered him came away smiling. Today we are smiling through our tears. He will truly be missed.

Our family will always remember Richie as he was always at the rehearsals when we were members of the Ambassadors of New York Drum & Bugle COrps and later the Ambassadors of New York Percussion Ensemble. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, but we know that his smile is now lighting up heaven the way it did here in Montgomery!!!

Bob, Cindy & Bobby,
I am so sorry to hear about Richie. He was a great guy, who's personality took him along way.He knew everyone and if he didn't,it wouldn't stop him from saying hello.
Being your neighbor for so many years has been a real honor, seeing that positive attitude from someone who was so high on life (Richie).Never letting anything get in the way of his daily visits.Right now, he's reuniting with all the people he has lost along the way.Catching them up on all the village gossip,or talking about what's new at the fire house.
We are going to miss all those conversations. His relationship with all of us was different. He hit all our hearts in a different way,a way in which he'll never be forgotten.
Words can't explain how sorry we are,but just know that if you need anything,we are here.

Memories of growing up in Montgomery as a child are filled with fond memories of Richard, remembering the days of seeing him at Howes diner, and always greeting me with a smile, and hearing "How is my little Lisa today", and as I grew to understand that Richard had a heart of gold, and the he always had nothing but good things to say about eveyone. This week The Village of Montgomery lost a very inportent person.
Richie was the Public Relations person for the Village.
As a former village resident, I remmber the first time and the last time I last spok to Richie.
He always wanted to know how the Caballeros were doing, and if there were any new news in the drum corps world, that he should know about.
Richie was always a around when there was a parade, going on as he loved them.
One of the last things that I did, before I moved, was to look up Richie and to give him some drum corps tapes of the Caballeros, as he always loved them.
Richie had CHARISMA

The VC 69ers were always proud to be Richie's classmate, as we all graduated together in June 1969.
Richie knew the score. He's with the angels now. We were blessed to know Richie; we'll miss him dearly.

Heartfelt condolences to the Reynolds family and to the entire village of friends whose lives were enriched by the always smiling and incomparably convivial Richie. Truly a legend in his own time. May the spirit of his community pride live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

I can remember back in High School at VC when Rich use to come to the sporting events. Rich would say hi to everyone. I will sure miss him walking down 17K and waving and pointing to every car that went pass. He always had an update on what was going on in Montgomery or the Fire Dept. General Montgomery Day and the Village will not be the same. Rest in Pease Rich, you will be sadly missed.

Gene, Robin, Bob, Cindy, and Bobbie,

Montgomery lost a one of a kind person when Richie passed away. I will always remember the childhood and even adult memories of Richie that I have. Even when I moved out of Montgomery, when he would see me in Montgomery, he would ask how I was and how my family was. He always remembered everyone.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I knew Rich for 25 years or so. He had a huge heart and was truly an ambassador for the village and the fire company. Few people enjoyed life as he did. My condolences to the family

My deepest sympathy to the entire Reynolds family. Richie is a great asset to our community will be greatly missed by all. In my lfe time I don't remember someone Richie didn't know or would walk up to say hello to. My mom told me a story that when she moved to montgomery after marring my father, Richie was the first person to say hello and welcome her to the village and she never forgot that (45+yrs). Rest easy friend to us all!
