Genevieve Kramer Obituary

Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY

Genevieve Kramer, 79, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, entered into rest on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 peacefully at her home, after a long illness.

She was born February 17, 1929 in Manhattan, the second daughter of Michael and Mary Harmon.

She graduated from Cathedral High School in New York. After graduation, worked at the phone company, then at the Post Office for 17 years.

She married James P. Darby and had seven children. They separated and divorced. After 15 years, she married Walter Kramer, who, as a truck driver for Pandick Press, made deliveries to the Post Office where she worked. They traveled all over the world on vacations. After Walter died, she moved to Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.

She learned to drive and to swim at age 40, and continued reading and learning every day of her life. She passed these loves on to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and the world is a better place for her having been here. She was an avid garage-sale attendee. She also enjoyed card games, and bingo with her friends at the Cornwall Seniors Center.

She suffered the loss of her eldest son, James in 2004, and son, Kevin in May of this year.

She is survived by her brother, Frank Harmon of Los Angeles; sister, Anne Toomey of Bronxville; sons, Dan of Cornwall and Joe of Ellenville, and daughters, Genevieve of Newburgh, Eileen of Cornwall-on-Hudson, and Theresa of Hewitt, NJ. She loved her seven grandchildren and the two most adorable great-grandchildren.

The family extends profound gratitude to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan, and especially to Misty and Peg, caring nurses of the highest caliber.

The family will welcome friends at the Quigley Bros Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, September 5.

Cremains interment will be at the family's convenience in the Washington Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.

Heavenly Father, please welcome her with your eternal love.
