John Watson Obituary

New Windsor, NY

John Clifford Watson, Sr. of New Windsor, NY, formerly a longtime resident of Monroe, died unexpectedly at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY on Monday, September 15, 2008.

He was born on July 21, 1916 in Union Hill, NJ to Stanley C. and Margaret Graef Watson.

John was drafted into the Army in 1941, World War II, and served for four years in the U.S. Air (Corps) Force as a T/Sgt. He served with the 5th Air Force and flew in B-24's as Engineer/Gunner stationed in the Asian-Pacific Theater, Darwin, Australia. John received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Asian-Pacific Service Medal and Service Medal, NYS.

In 1943, he married Pauline Hunt who survives him and they have three children: John C. Watson, Jr. and wife, Elaine Stamile Watson of Monroe, Cathy M. Norris and husband, David of Angleton, TX, and Jayne W. Ziegler and Brian Gibson of New Windsor, NY; five grandchildren: John K. Watson and wife, Georgia of Washington, DC, Matthew C. Watson and fianceé, Katy of Golden, CO, Dayna S. Ziegler and fiancé, Adam of New York City, Britney R. Ziegler of New York City, and Patti Caruso and husband, Lenny of Monroe; one great grandchild, Cal Caruso. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Chelsey Ziegler. John and Polly Watson celebrated 65 years of marriage in March 2008.

John was the owner/operator of the Watson Dental Laboratory for 30 years in Monroe. He was an active Committee Member of Boy Scout Troop #40 in Monroe, member of the United Methodist Church of Monroe, and belonged to the 380th Bomb Group Association.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, at the Cemetery of the Highlands, Route 32, Highland Mills, NY.

Donations would be appreciated to the United Methodist Church of Monroe, 47 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY 10950 or the Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 841,Monroe, NY 10950.
