Sylvia Pettway Obituary

Newburgh, NY

Sylvia Amelia Pettway departed this life for life eternal on Monday, September 15, 2008 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus.

Sylvia was born September 5, 1941 to the parentage of the late Walter Thompson and Darmar Mcbride in Mobile, AL.

Sylvia was a 45-year resident of Newburgh. She was a retired Children's Aide for Head Start of Newburgh and a member of AME Zion Church of Newburgh, where she sang in the choir.

Sylvia is survived by her loving family: husband, Rayefield Pettway; three daughters: Rene Lindsey of Warner Robbins, GA, Robin Deneane Pettway of Newburgh and Rolonda Velazquez (Paul) of Woodside, NY; sister, Greta Goodman of N.Y.C.; two brothers, Lionel Thompson (Barbara) of White Plains, NY and Conrad Thompson of Washington, DC; six grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Rhonda Yvette Pettway; son, Raphael Pettway; sister, Vera White and a brother, Walter Thompson, Jr.

Visitation will be Friday, September 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the AME Zion Church, 111 Washington St., Newburgh.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Twila Rucker Caines officiating.

Interment will be at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
