Rita Cocks Obituary

Highland Mills, NY

Rita Torresson Cocks of Highland Mills, NY and Vero Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2008 in Vero Beach, Florida.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas S. Torresson and Winifred M. McNamara and was born on December 28, 1913 in Brooklyn. She was the wife of the late F. Bryant Cocks and the loving mother of Frederick Cocks and wife Virginia of Monroe; Thomas Cocks and wife Elizabeth of Boca Raton, FL; Rita Carlson of Vero Beach, FL and Michael Cocks and wife Susan of Highland Mills. She was the beloved grandmother of fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mimzie Provost. She will be missed greatly by all.

Rita was a charter member of the Highland Mills Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Patrick's Church in Highland Mills and the Woodbury Golden Agers. She was an alumni of Thevenet Hall of Highland Mills and a volunteer of Care Net of Vero Beach.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 10, from 7-9 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 515 Route 32, Highland Mills.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the chapel at Bethany Retreat House, 202 County Route 105, Highland Mills, with The Rev. John Palaparambil officiating. Interment will follow in St. Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc., 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, New York 12550.

Rita was a great friend to my Mom. I always remember the kindness she showed us when my Mom died. I still have the plant she sent to us at that time and I have thought of her often over the years. She was one of the nicest people ever to live in Highland Mills. My sympathy to you all.
