John Siska Obituary

Jeffersonville, NY

John Siska, 91, of Jeffersonville, NY, a retired superintendent for the New York City Sanitation Department, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Achieve Nursing and Rehab Center, Liberty, NY.

The son of John and Elizabeth Kopdcky Siska, he was born August 3, 1917, in New York. John was the husband of Elsie Katona Siska, a member and Past President of the First Lutheran Church of Jeffersonville, Life member of Clarence Hoyt Post #9217, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of WW II and was awarded the Bronze Star. Prior to WW II he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Western U.S.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie Katona Siska at home; one son and daughter-in-law, John S. and Arlene Siska of Liberty; one grandson, John T. Siska of Poughkeepsie; one granddaughter, Kristina Siska of Long Island, also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Eve Siska and by two brothers, Paul and Edward and a sister, Elizabeth.

Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY, funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Kit Robison officiating. Burial will be in Jeffersonville Lutheran Cemetery, Jeffersonville, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church of Jeffersonville, or the charity of ones choice.
