Dorothy Ombrello Obituary

Otisville, NY

Many people are gifted with the propensity to excel in the arts and sciences and thus make their mark upon the world. Not so with Dorothy, for she was given an even greater gift...that of a nurturer. Dorothy Ombrello of Otisville, died Thursday, October 9, 2008.

Born March 4, 1924, the only surviving child to Ernest and Anna Bosch Martin in Bergenfield, NJ, Dorothy was orphaned in her preteen years. Raised by loving relatives, she was instilled with the need and desire for her own family. After a brief career in hairdressing, she married Tom Ombrello and moved to City Island in the Bronx, where she lived a TV stereotypical 1950's life as a wife, mother of three and homemaker.

Upon Tom's retirement, she moved to Otisville, found part time work in the cafeteria at O.C.C.C. and joined numerous senior citizen groups, where she found lasting friendships. Her grandchildren were a constant source of pleasure and she readily participated in their lives, rejoicing with pride in their accomplishments. After Tom died, Dorothy was able to enjoy twenty years of independent, active living until recently requiring skilled care. Her last years were highlighted by many joyous family events, the birth of her beloved great-granddaughter, Olivia Grace Loeven, and were sealed with the very recent wedding of a grandson. Hers was a life well lived.

She is survived by her children: Tom and Thea Ombrello of Lebanon, NJ, Florence and Sal D'Angelo of Grenville, NY, and Susan Napolitano of Middletown NY; her grandchildren: Ann Martina and Eric Loeven, Tim and Jenna Ombrello, Tori and Kevin Johnson, Terri Ombrello, Sal and Andria D'Angelo, Vincent, Deena and Anthony Napolitano.

Although only 'Italian' by marriage, Dorothy's ethnic love of food prompts her family to request memorial donations to be sent to the food pantry of your choice.

The family wishes to recognize with appreciation the loving care and dignity shown to Dorothy by Jenny Carlucci and the staff at the Carlucci Home in Greenville.

Friends are invited to call today, Sunday October 12, from 2-4 p.m. at Morse Funeral Home, Inc., 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown, NY.

To the Ombrello Family,
Our prayers are with you at this difficult time. Mrs. Ombrello was the sweetest neighbor anyone could have ever had. When we first moved into our home, she treated my daughter and I with such kindness, welcoming us to the neighborhood. I will always remember that.
