Catherine Ernst Obituary

Middletown, NY

Catherine A. Ernst of Middletown, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Middletown Park Manor. She was 95.

The daughter of John and Catherine Williams Theis, she was born on January 17, 1913 in New York. She married Arthur Ernst and enjoyed almost 40 years of marriage together before his death on November 17, 1976. After Arthur's death, Catherine lived with her daughter, Arlene and her husband, George for over 32 years.

Her family and friends will remember her as a very quiet woman who was an independent spirit. She was very talented and crocheted many beautiful afghans for her family during her lifetime. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed feeding and watching the squirrels in her yards.

Survivors include her daughter, Arlene and her husband, George Strecker of Middletown; son, Robert Ernst and his wife, Jean of Bainbridge, NY; eight grandchildren: Kathleen Smedley and her husband, Frank, William Milburn, Patricia Terry, Michael Ernst and his wife, Michelle, John Ernst and his wife, Patty, Robert Ernst and his wife, Lisa, Jeffrey Strecker and his wife, Arlene and Mark Strecker; as well as 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 21, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, Daniel Hulseapple will officiate. Burial of cremains will take place at the convenience of the family in Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Catherine's name may be made to Southwinds Courtyard Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 2023, Middletown, NY 10940.
