Neshan Alexanian Obituary

September 6, 1921 - October 10, 2008

Formerly of Middletown, NY

Neshan Alexanian, "Nesh", "Boppi" of Lumberton, NC for past 10 years, formerly of Middletown, NY since 1945, died peacefully in his sleep on October 10, 2008. He was 87 years old.

He was born in Philadelphia, PA, to Mary Koshkerian and Kaloust Alexanian, both survivors of the Armenian genocide of 1915. Orphaned as a toddler, he spent his boyhood at Girard College, a boarding school for boys. During his youth in Philadelphia, he played semipro soccer on an all-Armenian team, and excelled at wrestling. His favorite music was big bands, and he was an accomplished lindy dancer in the Philly style. Nesh always rooted for the Philadelphia Eagles, as do his daughters.

After serving in the Army during WW II, he married Margaret Abkarian (deceased) and they had three daughters, Marguerite Beardsley, Anita Forman, and Alyssa Mohin; six grandchildren: Laura, Juliet, Amber, Lee, Ben and Liz; eight great-grandchildren: Darius, Anthony, Andreas, Nyasia, Syrna, Ayana, Cora and Owen. He was married to Irene Lowrey, who survives, as do two stepdaughters, Margie Rivest and Ada Jankowaik.

He was a certified Public Accountant, a past President of the Middletown Lions Club and a member of the Elks Club, where he loved to play cards. He ran for Republican Alderman in Middletown, but supported Obama. During the 1950's, he held a pilots license, and worked at Randall Airport and had served on the Howells School Board. He will be greatly missed.

A remembrance gathering will be held on October 26, from 12-3 p.m. at Michelangelo's Restaurant, 511 Rte. 17M (North Street) in Middletown.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, Middletown, NY. To send a condolence or for additional information, please e-mail Anita Forman at [email protected].

Boppi was always there for me all my life. As a child,He made sure i went to all community activities, plays and shows at the jr high, and to the orange county fair,of course to shuffle the buffalo for the lions club booth for which he acquired the stuffed animals as a member.(which he did w/pride& joy)from him i learned diligence & work ethic ,as he worked night &day in his ofc on grove st.From him i learned the importance of education&reading, politics and
Armenian history. Most of all his love & kindness.I will miss him terribly,as i have been since he went down south.

Irene, Margie And All Family Members,
It was an honor and a delight to know Mr. Nesh, as we called him. A true scholar with a deep burning fire to stand up for what he believed in, and not afraid to voice it. I will miss him as a neighbor in NC and surely miss his talent for singing. My heartfelt sympathy to all.
