Cynthia Atterbury Obituary

Flat Rock, NC

Cynthia J. Goldsmith Atterbury of Flat Rock, NC, died Tuesday evening, October 28, 2008.

She was born in Warwick, NY to James and Mildred Goldsmith and grew up in Goshen, NY where she was a 1956 graduate of Goshen Central High School. She attended Colorado Woman's College in Denver, CO and Katherine Gibbs in Providence, RI.

Prior to moving to Flat Rock, NC in 1993, she resided for many years in the Baltimore, MD area and in Rancho Mirage, CA.

As a young girl, she developed a strong love of nature and gardening which remained an abiding commitment and source of pleasure throughout her life. She never lost her childhood sense of awe for nature or her passion for creating beautiful gardens.

Surviving are her husband, R. Rennie Atterbury, III; a sister, Beryl G. Yungman of Warwick, NY; a niece, Bry Yungman Stewart of Denver, CO; a son, Charles E. Conklin, III; a stepson, S. Ward Atterbury of New York City and a stepdaughter, Kendall C.B. Atterbury of Stratford, CT.

Services and burial will be in New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Four Season Hospice and Palliative Care, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or to your local hospice chapter.

An online register book is available at www.thosshepherd.com. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center, Hendersonville, NC is in charge of the arrangements.
