Douglas Bruyn Obituary

Pine Bush, NY

Douglas Robert Bruyn, age 77, a Pine Bush resident, died October 28, 2008 at Montgomery Nursing Home.

Douglas was born July 1, 1931 in Middletown, NY, son of C. Raymond Bruyn and Doris Dickerson Bruyn, both deceased.

Douglas graduated June 1944 with high honors from Hicksville High School, Long Island, NY. His family moved back to Pine Bush and graduated June 1950 with honors from Orange County Community College, Middletown, NY.

Douglas served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1972. He went to Korea in 1951 and was crew chief for Sabrejets of the veteran 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing. After the Korean War, he returned home to marry Doris H. Seely at Bel-Air, MD in 1953. He returned to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines with family and was sent to Thailand for one year. He returned back to Mountain Home AFB, Boise, ID and was honorably discharged as Master Sergeant. He was awarded many medals for distinguished service. Douglas returned back home to Pine Bush in 1972 until the present.

Douglas was a member of the G. Paul Bettinger American Legion Post #1308, Pine Bush, NY.

Douglas was a devoted father, grandfather, and uncle. He loved hunting and fishing wherever he was stationed with the USAF and here in the Hudson Valley.

Surviving are his wife, Doris, of Pine Bush; two sons and their spouse, James & Venice Bruyn and Gregory & Kelly Bruyn; two daughters, Susan & David Pondi, all of Pine Bush, and Sarah Bruyn of Houston, TX; his grandchildren: David R. Pondi, Melissa A. Pondi, Michael C. Pondi, James V. Bruyn, Brittnie L. Bruyn, Angie Bruyn, Kyle Bruyn, and Neal Clark; two brothers, Donald C. Bruyn and Raymond D. Bruyn & Marion Bruyn; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; two brothers-in-law, Norman Seely of Pennsylvania and Roy Seely of Nebraska. He was predeceased by his son, George Stephan Bruyn.

Visitation will be held today, Thursday, October 30, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the DeWitt Funeral Home, 64 Center St., Pine Bush, NY.

A Church Service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 1, at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Thompson Ridge, NY, with the Rev. Robin Joy Hogle officiating. Cremation will follow at Cedar Hill, Newburgh, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, PO Box 202, Thompson Ridge, NY 10985.
