Mary F. Muller

Mary F. Muller, a resident of Ellenville since 1937, and former employee of the New York Telephone Co. in the revenue accounting department, died October 30, 2008 in Callicoon, NY. She was 100.

The daughter of Stefan and Maria Finek Pernicka, she was born September 11, 1908 in New Jersey.

Before her death, Mary asked the following to be printed on her behalf: She was the widow of Walter N. Muller, who died May 15, 2000.

She worked in the Ellenville Central School cafeteria for eight years as a managers assistant when it first opened. She received a plaque of appreciation from the school board in recognition of her dedication to the students of the Ellenville Central School. She was active in the affairs for the Ellenville Central School, the Village of Ellenville, and the Town of Wawarsing. She was instrumental in having the Village of Ellenville pass the spring and fall clean up free of charge.

Mrs. Muller requested the Ellenville Central School, the Village of Ellenville and the Town of Wawarsing boards to pass an ordinance preventing smoking during public meetings. It was passed unanimously. In years past, the school budget was voted on by a show of hands at the annual meetings. Many times, Mary requested of the school board to allow the budget to be voted on by ballot, and the same way the board members were voted on. Mary was very active in all community affairs including the Golden Age Senior Citizens and the Ellenville Regional Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Arlene Muller Parks of San Diego, CA, and Ellen Rose Muller Selimotic of Ellenville, NY; two grandchildren, Craig Stevens Selimotic of New York City, and Erica Marie Selimotic Liljefors and her husband, Peter, formerly of Ellenville; great-granddaughter, Olivia Marie Liljefors; great-grandson, Carl Gustaf Walter Liljefors; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Matilda Pernicka Cooper Ryan and Stefania Sears of Ohio; two brothers, Mathias Pernicka of Staten Island and Arthur Pernicka of California.

There will be no viewing hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Mary & St. Andrew, Ellenville, on Wednesday, November 5, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville, NY.
