Derek Wolsiefer Obituary

Dingmans Ferry, PA - Derek James Wolsiefer, 17, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 in Dingman Township, Pa.

Derek was a senior at Delaware Valley High School, who after graduation in 2008, set his goals to become a neurosurgeon. In 2002, he received the President's Award for outstanding academic achievement. Derek became an emergency medical technician on June 12, 2006 at the age of 16, a certified CPR and AED professional rescuer and assistant CPR and AED instructor. He was a member of the Health Occupations Students of America EMT Team, placing second in Pennsylvania on March 23, 2007 sending him to the national competition in Florida in June 2007. Derek was a Life Scout; Boy Scout lifeguard; assistant medic at Camp Minsi Boy Scout Camp, Mt. Pocono, Pa., Camel Back Ski Resort and Paintball Skirmish. Derek also participated in the Odyssey of the Mind World Competition in College Park, Md. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Group Volunteers for five years.

The son of Mark A. and Loretta (Carlsen) Wolsiefer, he was born on April 28, 1990 in Newton, N.J. Derek loved his family and friends immensely.

Survivors include his parents of Dingmans Ferry, Pa.; his brother, Mark A. Wolsiefer Jr. of Dingmans Ferry, Pa. and his sister, Karen J. Wolsiefer at home; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Florence of Moyock, N.C.; paternal great-grandmother, Edna Ebert of Port Jefferson, N.Y.; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 Delaware Crest, Dingmans Ferry, Pa. on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6:30-9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the church on Friday, October 19 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Niels Nielsen will officiate. Burial will take place in Delaware Cemetery, Dingmans Ferry, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations for the purpose of setting up a scholarship in Derek's name.
