Helen Lewis Obituary

Monroe - Helen T. Lewis, a resident of Monroe for over 90 years, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 98 years old.

The daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Bull Taylor, she was born in Lynbrook, Long Island on September 29, 1909. She was a direct descendent of Sarah Wells and William Bull, one of the oldest families to settle in Orange County.

Helen was a retired school teacher of nearly 30 years from the Monroe-Woodbury school system. She was a life-member of the Middletown Area Retired Teachers Association (MARTA) and an alumni of SUNY New Paltz. She had been a member of Harriman and Monroe United Methodist Churches.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Montanye and son-in-law, Roy of Monroe. Also surviving are her sister, Marion Strebel and her brother, John Taylor, both formerly of Monroe, who now live at Glen Arden in Goshen; her brother-in-law, Robert Lewis of Monroe; nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Roy and her sister, Dorothy Taylor.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, October 27th at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kimberly Bosley officiating.

Interment will follow at Cemetery of The Highlands, Highland Mills.

Memorial contributions may be made to Monroe United Methodist Church, 47 Maple Avenue, Monroe, New York 10950.

Charlie & I were so glad to see Helen this September when we were in N.Y. We miss the great time's we have had over the years, Hawaii,with Helen with a cookie in each hand looking over us playing in the surf, Helen again coming up with the winning hand in pinochle.
