Norman Jarvais Obituary

Phillipsport - Norman Michael Jarvais, formerly of Phillipsport and Middletown, the Phillipsport Postmaster for over 25 years, as well as former owner of E&M General Store, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Elant at Goshen. He was 90.

The son of the late Norman Nelson and Mary McNulty Jarvais, he was born on May 2, 1917 in Ogdensburg, N.Y.

A Veteran, Mr. Jarvais served in the United States Navy during World War II, with the "Sea Bees". He was a member of the Summitville Fire Department, where he also served as commissioner. Norman also worked as an assistant foreman for Republic Air Lines.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn E. Jarvais; their children: Jan Cartwright of Winsted, Minn., and Bonnie Ingrassia and her husband, Joe of Cuddebackville and his son-in-law, Paul Mayer of Middlebury, Vt. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Mayer and his great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, at the Poplar Grove Cemetery in Phillipsport, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to a charity of one's choice.
