Thomas Zuewsky Obituary

Woodbourne, NY - Thomas J. Zuewsky, of Woodbourne, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2007 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side at the age of 51.

The son of Stanley and Antoinette Gut Zuewsky, he was born on April 8, 1956 in Queens, N.Y.

As a young man, Tom joined the Mountaindale Fire Department and went through the consecutive ranks in the department, such as first assistant chief, first engineer, EMT and honorary chief. He later joined Woodbourne Fire Company #1, where he achieved the ranks of life-member and honorary chief. He retired from the Woodbourne Correctional Facility as a correctional officer of 25 years in 2003. He then obtained his master electrician license and started a new profession with his own company which he called TKA Electric, named after his three precious children, Thomas, Kassi and Alexa. He also served as a board member for the Fallsburg Central School District for two terms, and became very active in getting Pop Warner Football started for the district again. Being an avid outdoor lover, he was the founder and president of the Flat Landers Hunting Club, which he wanted to establish for his son. He also had a passion for ice fishing. He enjoyed it so much. Tom had many passions and accomplishments in life, but the most important and proudest accomplishment was when he became a father. Tom was very grateful for the title that was given to him and he not only held great respect for being a father, but he was a true, loving, patient, devoted and most exceptional hands on "DAD" there was. He always put his children first. He always made sure he was very active in his children's life and loved them like no father could. Kelly was very proud of Tom obtaining his master electrician license and having a new profession and the way he raised his children.

Tommy leaves behind his loving wife, Kelly at home; his three most precious angels, Thomas, Kassi and Alexa, also at home; his mother, Antoinette Zuewsky of Long Island; three sisters, Victoria Sobotka, Annette Cassara and her husband, Joseph all of Long Island and Elaine Zuewsky of Westchester; three devoted nephews, Joey Jr. and Vinny Cassara and Christopher Sobotka; one niece, Nicole Cassara; his father and mother-in-law, Martin and Frances Kotler of Rock Hill; devoted sister-in-law, Marcy Kotler; and brother-in-law, Kevin Kotler; and many, many other relatives and loved ones.

Family will receive friends on Monday, November 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, N.Y. Firematic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Route 42, Woodbourne. Fr. John Lynch will officiate. Interment will follow at the Luna Organization Cemetery, Rock Hill.

Dear Kelly,

My wife and I send you our love and blessings. I was away in Florida when Tom passed. I was glad that I got to come by the house to be with you and the kids and bring you the pictures from Veteran's Day and the Spaghetti Supper Fund Raiser. It was always special to share photos of you and the kids with Tom. He loved you all and was such a great advocate for all children in the school district. If there is anything you need that I can help with, please call on me.

Dear Kelly, Thomas, Kassi, and Alexa,

When storm clouds gather
And lightning pierces your world
Through an inky black sky,

That's when you need to have
Faith and trust
The sun will shine
Again.

My prayers are with you all at this tragic time. Tom was a very good man, and I know that his memory will bring strength to all of you, now and always.

Love,
Cousin Beth

To the Zuewsky family and extended families:
It's very rare for a person to have contributed so much in a mere 51 years. We can all marvel at his accomplishments, but I think Tom would have been embarrassed at all the accolades, because he gave of himself in the same way that he breathed...effortlessly.

May his memory and his values be a blessing to all that knew him. Souls like Tom's never pass away.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
