Gertrude Talaber Obituary

New Paltz, NY - Gertrude Haverkamp Talaber, formerly of Poughkeepsie, a receptionist "white angel" for Vassar College in Poughkeepsie up until her retirement in 1992, died December 2, 2007 in Wingate at Ulster. She was 87.

The daughter of Gysbert Haverkamp and Maria Vleming, she was born January 17, 1920 in Poughkeepsie.

She married Frank Talaber on October 12, 1941 in St. Joseph's Church, Poughkeepsie. He died June 24, 1968.

She was a life-member of the Reformed Church of Poughkeepsie.

Survivors include two daughters, Maria Ward and her husband Robert of New Paltz, Rosalie Howell and her husband Don of Clermont, Fla.; one son, Frank Talaber and his wife Dawn of Norman, Okla.; three grandchildren, C.J. Talaber, Meredith Rubinstein and Jocelyn Swart; six great-grandchildren, Alana, Nathan, Luke, Anna, Benjamin and Nathaniel; three sisters, Myntje Draiss of Troy, N.Y., Dorothea Delehanty of Corneleas, N.C., Barbara Shortt of Poughkeepsie; one brother, John Haverkamp of Poughkeepsie; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by four sisters, Johanna Welton, Maria Olah, Bertha Gibson, Myntje Haverkamp; one brother, Gysbert Haverkamp.

There are no calling hours.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 6 at 10 a.m. at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Reformed Church, 70 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
