Frances Ramsey Obituary
Monticello, NY - Frances T. Ramsey, 86, passed away quietly on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty.
She was predeceased by her son: Hector Atherly; her daughter: Louisa Atherly and her son: Teoafalos, all of Panama; her youngest sister: Bishop Ada Bayne of Brooklyn; and her husband Robert Ramsey of Panama.
Mrs. Ramsey was born January 10, 1921 in Panama immigrating to the United States in the late 1950's seeking a better life for her children. She first settled in New York City originally, but found permanent residence in Monticello due to a thriving community of opportunity at that time. Frances worked as a housekeeper at the Concord and Raleigh Hotels for many years. She also worked for Mr. Johnson of Johnson Jewelry as a presser and was a breakfast cook at the old Community General Hospital. Frances, affectionately known as "Nana" by her grandchildren and several community members, leaves many to cherish her memory.
She is survived by her daughter: Sarah Atherly of Monticello; her son: Carlos Ramsey of Binghamton; and her youngest son: Robert Jones of Middletown; and a sister: Mary Thomas of North Carolina. Mrs. Ramsey also has 12 grandchildren: Enrique Burns (Sakena) of Monticello, Loreen Burns-Creque (Robert) of Monticello, Myola Burns Jr. of Washington - US Navy, Pravo Atherly of Binghamton, Deanna Atherly Watson of Monticello, Teoafalos Neusuan of the state of Florida, Carlos Ramsey Jr. of Binghamton, Sadaisha Ramsey of Binghamton, Shaundiece Carr Jones of Harlem, Teresa Atherly of the state of Florida, Yakeem Ross (Keisha) of Loch Sheldrake and Iesha Ross of Monticello. From these grandchildren came 14 great-grandchildren. There are also a host of nieces, cousins, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law; two special nieces: Adele Goody (Leonard) of the Bronx and Nydia Bayne of Brooklyn; a special daughter-in-law; Alberta Neusuan of Monticello; and an adored daughter: Lolita McRae of Houston, Texas; and a nephew: Pastor Orlando Thomas (Linda) of Fayetteville, N.C.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 10 from 10-11 a.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, December 10 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
