Marjorie Lois Riches Hunter

Marjorie Hunter Obituary

Marjorie Hunter 1923 ~ 2009 Marjorie Lois Riches Hunter, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2009, at the age of 85, surrounded by her family. She was a woman at peace with herself and what life offered her.Marjorie was born on a snowy May 28, 1923 to John Calvin Riches and Hazel Ann White Riches. She was born in her aunt and uncle's home at 1900 South State Street and was raised in a home on Coatsville Avenue that had been built on land owned by her father's family and had been used as a farm for many years. She met the love of her life while attending South High School and on January 29, 1943, she was married to her beloved eternal companion, Dr. J. Poulson "Pouly" Hunter, in the Salt Lake Temple. After moving 11 times and with four children, she moved into her present home on Halloween Day in 1950. As her family grew, Marjorie was involved in Cub Scouts, the Parley's Stake Young Women, Relief Society, and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. In her "spare time" she was an excellent cook and seamstress. A mother of nine children, she always knew she would have a large family. Marjorie recalled the years she spent rearing her four daughters and five sons as the happiest time in her life. She declared, most proudly, "they are all still living and all good people." Marjorie fondly remembered watching her children in all their various activities. There were a lot of football and baseball games. The girls were in Pep Club. Every year at Easter time, the whole family would pack up and drive to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. This tradition continued for 20 years. Traveling in a station wagon with such a large family was a challenge. The entire luggage was stored on top on the vehicle and Marjorie recalled the children passing the time by playing the "license plate" game. As summer arrived, another trip was always planned. Most often this trip would be to a national park, always including Yellowstone on the way. Marjorie and Pouly traveled to many of the LDS temples. At one time in their lives, they had been to all but one of the temples that had been built. Her extensive travels spanned the globe, including North America, South America, Europe, China, Africa, Saudi Arabia, and the former Soviet Union. She crisscrossed the United States from Alaska to Key West and from San Diego to New York City. She cherished family gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and later in life, her great-grand-children. It is the grandchildren and great-grandchildren that have a special place in Marjorie's heart. There are 74 of them, including six sets of twins! Marjorie is survived her sister Jeanne Everett, Salt lake City, Utah, brother John C. "Bud" Riches, Murray, UT, and her nine children: Susan Gibbons, Boise, ID; Anne (Sherman) Hale, Salt Lake City, UT; John Hunter, Murray, UT, Robert Hunter, Salt Lake City, UT; Marcia Lois (Robert) Rogers, Sandy, UT; Marc (Debra) Hunter, Sandy, UT; Matthew (Jennifer) Hunter, Salt Lake City, UT; Douglass (Kathryn) Hunter, Salt Lake City, UT; Lisa (Edward) Bagley, Salt Lake City, UT. She also leaves behind 37 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her brother Lynn Riches grandchildren Jason Issac Hunter and Corinne Rogers, and great-granddaughter Brytni Galanis. Funeral Services will be held on May 22, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. at the Parleys Sixth Ward Chapel, 2350 South 2100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call May 21, 2009 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive and from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Marc

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Losing anyone is difficult, but a parent is extremely hard, we lost our dad ten years ago and that was tough. Someone who plays such a vital role in your life is not there for a phone call or a visit. We do have the memories and the laughs and most importantly the advice they gave us to use and pass on.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Marc:
I just heard about your mother. I am so very sorry. I lost both my mother and father in a 14 month time span this past yr. as well. It's hard. I know they must be very proud of the man you have become. I appreciate your professionalism, your work ethic, and especially your friendship.

Thanks Marc, and good luck in the coming months.

Marc and Deb:
I am saddened to hear of your loss of your mother. I was unaware of your father passing away. I lost my father 9 years ago while coaching at the state wrestling tourney and I still struggle from time to time. I try to dedicate all that I do to him and his memory. I always want him to be proud of what I do.

It must be difficult for you at this time. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. I never knew them, but I know that they had to be great people of quality character and integrity. You are a shining example of the fruits of their labor in raising a quality human being. In your time of grief, remember all the wonderful traits they have installed into you and your life. Acorns rarely fall far from the tree.

If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know.

Respectfully;
RAGIN RON
