Robert Jordan Obituary

"Bob"

Robert E. "Bob" Jordan, age 55, of Naperville passed away suddenly Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Edward Hospital. He was born April 2, 1952 in Aurora. Bob received his bachelor's degree in Latin from North Central College and a bachelor's in Spanish from Northern Illinois University where he later earned his masters degree. Bob had taught school in the West Aurora School District and was currently working with students in a District 203 transitional program from school to the work force.

"Lion Bob" was a very active and devoted member of the Naperville Noon Lions Club, having transferred from the Big Rock Lions Club in 1992. He served in various capacities as Raffle Chairman, Social Services Chairman, where he was instrumental in increasing the budget to over fifty thousand dollars per year and Board Member and club President from 1998-1992. He was always willing to participate in any and all of the clubs fundraising activities. Lion Bob was also a very active promoter of the Lions Ski for Sight Program, attending many area zone and club meetings to raise funds for that program. His tireless devotion to Lionism earned him the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2001, which is Lions highest honor. In addition, he was the first member of the club to receive the Lions District 1-J, George Lazansky award.

Bob was also very active in the Organ Transplant Support and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. His personal, life long struggle with diabetes and his sense of humor, was an inspiration to many. He was an active member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Naperville, especially in CHRP, Men's Bible Study, and he loved to be a Greeter or a Reader. He was a devoted Cubs fan.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Martin Jordan; his daughter, Jenny (Thomas) Lemmons of Aurora; his children, Grace, Victor, and Rosie Yaguchi, all of Naperville; his granddaughters, Savannah and Madison Lemmons of Aurora; his sister, Kathy (Chuck) Lesnik of Naperville; his nieces, Liz (Paul) Stein of Naperville and Natalie (Todd) Buelow of Edina, MN; and a special cousin, Dale (Andrea) Burchfield of Plainfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Annie (nee Schmidt) Jordan.

What a shock it was to hear of Bob's death when I called him for one of our "school break life updates". I had the privilage of calling Bob a friend for the past six years. He and I worked together at West Aurora High School. He was a caring and funny teacher who enjoyed teaching. I always appreciated the wisdom and encouragement he gave me during the challenging times that have occurred in my life. He talked fondly of his family and the Lions Club. He was such an inspiration to me for not letting his health challenges stop him from doing what he wanted to do.

I will miss Bob, but am comforted in knowing that he is in God's kingdom serving our Lord and that I will one day be able to see him again.

Senor Beto will be very much missed. I just found out today from a friend, and a classmate that shared Senor's classroom. He formed such a positive impact on me as a freshman in high school as the third teacher I met. He was more than a teacher, but a great friend. God Bless Senor!

I am so sad to hear that Bob has gone; sad for those of us who are left without his inspiration and encouragement. Bob challenged anyone who knew him to redefine their definition of "disability." He lived the reality of what it means to "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances."

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Peggy and the family as well as to all those who will miss Bob's infectious spirit.

I have talked to Bob only a few times, when my son was working on his Eagle project. You rarely come in contact with someone with as much enthusiasm and instant inspiration as Bob. The encouragement and support he gave my son during that time has left both of us with a lasting impression of a man who seized every opportunity to be a catalyst for service and charitable works. He will be missed.

Bob redefined the saying “is your cup half empty or half full”. For Bob it overflowed. What an inspiration Bob was and will always be. He gave so much of himself to others. His selfless and caring presence will be missed by so many. Peggy may you be comforted by the knowledge that he delights in his new heavenly body.

Señor Beto ~ you will be remembered always as the most powerful force on two prosthetic feet...the most compassionate and caring friend...the most gifted and humorous Spanish teacher...the most giving and selfless human being...the most adoring husband...the most enthousiastic learner...the most tireless worker. Bob, you taught me what it means to be effected by all that life is around us and to respond to the needy forgetting that you were often needy yourself. Thank you for all the effort you put into every second of your life and how special you made us all feel. But it was you - you that was special. Enjoy the new legs and let us pick up some of the work you started.

Señor Beto lives . . . forever.
Beto, I love you, I respect you, and I admire you. I am sad and I am happy for you. Nothing can stop you from doing what you loved to do now. You are free; you are with my family and me. Thank you for every breath of life you blessed us with every time we met for Spanish class. You are a truly generous person who shares his best because you love from the heart and from your brilliant mind full of wonder and joy for learning. You will live in our hearts and in our family's best memories, I will not forget you Beto, “mi amigo del alma”. (My soul’s friend)

Peggy, I thank you for sharing your glorious husband, a true man who can face life's great challenges with dignity and love. Always concerned about the less privileged.
God bless you and keep your mind, heart and spirit in a serene place. We will always remember how Bob refers to you . . . “My lovely wife Peggy".

Senor Beto has had more of an impact on me than any teacher that I've had in my educational career and was the best Spanish teacher it was my honor to be taught by. He will be missed, but never forgotten. Hasta luego, mi amigo. Hasta reunirimos mas.

Beto was a good friend. I felt like he was my brother. We spent many hours together early on Saturday mornings. We shared our live's stories both happy and sad. I will miss my friend. I'm sure he is now in a much better place and I hope to see him again some day.

Betito- You brought a lot of joy, smiles, and inspiration to West Aurora during your time here. I always appreciated your friendship and admired your caring attitude towards the kids. Your persistent, positive attitude was always inspirational, no matter what life through at you. You are gone way too soon but your giving spirit will live on forever. My thoughts go out to your family and all of those who you touched!
