Mannfred Hollinger Obituary

HOLLINGER, Dr. Mannfred Alan
June 28, 1939 - April 19, 2007

Fred was a man of many parts. Well known and respected for his contributions to science, with well over 100 publications to his credit; he was at the same time fanatic about his tennis game, history, art, and language, and his beloved cats. His dry wit and sense of humour caught many off guard, expecting instead, a "serious" scientist.

He was the adored husband of GEORGIA HOLLINGER (most of the time), and a wonderful parent to his two children, Randolph Alan Hollinger and Christopher Hastings Hollinger. He was distinguished in this area for his participation in the upbringing of the boys, including being the first father to participate at the Davis Parent Nursery School, Little League, Cub Scouts, and other activities in which his children were involved. He was Pop Pop to Chris and Aran's children, Elle and Cade. He was brother to Mark Hollinger, and will be sorely missed by all his family.

Fred was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Medical Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of California at Davis. He was a specific field editor for the "Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics", a series editor of "Pharmacology and Toxicology: Basic and Clinical Aspects", and an editorial advisory board member for the "International Journal of Toxicology" and "Research Communication in Chemical Pathology and Pharmacology." He was in the galley stage of the third edition of "Introduction to Pharmacology" a highly respected and world wide used textbook as an introduction to this area.

For his own and many readers amusement he wrote and published, "The Blackbird Papers", an espionage story based on his research in science and history of World War II.
