Dorothy Jackson Obituary

Dorothy Jeanne Jackson "World Traveler" Dorothy Jeanne Jackson of Salt Lake City passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009 at her home, due to age and health conditions. Jeanne was born in Salt Lake City, October 17, 1937, the beloved daughter of Dr. H. M. and Dorothy Evans Jackson. She was educated in Salt Lake City public schools and graduated in 1956 from East High School. She attended Westminster College, where she enjoyed her studies in business. Jeanne retired from Beneficial Life Insurance Company after 30 years of service in the print and copy section. Jeanne was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully as secretary of the LDS Hospital Branch of the Church for many years. She visited at the hospital once or twice a week, as well as the Sunday Service. Jeanne became skilled in wood carving. Her home reflected her talent in needlepoint and embroidery, which she shared with family and friends. Jeanne especially loved to travel and looked forward to a couple of trips a year. She traveled extensively in Europe, visited the Antarctic, cruised the seas and had many exciting adventures. Jeanne was dedicated and cared lovingly for her parents in their declining years. She was an accomplished family historian, gathering, compiling and creating volumes of Pioneer family histories. She was a great-great-grandchild of several very significant early LDS pioneers, who came West with Brigham Young. Jeanne loved the family gatherings with her aunts, uncles and many cousins. Jeanne is survived by her Aunt Marjorie Buehner, Uncle John (Pat) Evans and many cousins from the Jackson, Buehner and Evans families. She was preceded in death by her wonderful parents. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, February 5, 2009 in the Larkin Mortuary Chapel, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery. Online condolences: [email protected]

Jeanne will be missed. I will miss seeing her every couple of months. She was always pleasant to see and always in a hurry to leave. She was a very nice lady to work with. I will be glad I knew her.

I will miss hearing Jeanne's stories of our pioneer ancestors as well as her latest trips. She was a loyal daughter to her dear parents, and will be missed greatly.

Nancy and Gayle Crawford. (Nancy is Jeanne's cousin, daughter of John Evans, Jeanne's Uncle) Jeanne's Christmas card always arrived first at our house. I will miss her sunny disposition.
